Job summary

Kimmel & Associates is recruiting an Electrical Engineer to support a national fleet of solar, wind, and thermal assets. The role focuses on protection, reliability, safety, NERC compliance, and project participation across development and M&A activities.

Reporting to the Electrical Engineering Manager, you will diagnose events, perform power system studies, review protection systems, and guide plant operations with technical expertise at multiple sites.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience in power generation, transmission, and/or distribution.
  • PE license preferred; candidates without a PE should have at least 5 years of practicing engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of system protection, arc flash, electrical safety, maintenance/reliability, and NERC compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose plant electrical events using relay records and plant reports; identify root causes and corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support to operating sites during electrical events, including fault location and protective-relaying recommendations.
  • Develop and review relay settings, protection upgrades, and third-party protection and control designs.
  • Perform short-circuit, load-flow, coordination, and arc-flash studies using ETAP or similar software.
  • Conduct arc-flash hazard analyses and support electrical safety and mitigation initiatives.
  • Review switching, isolation, and LOTO procedures.
  • Support maintenance and reliability programs for transformers, breakers, substations, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Review equipment maintenance and testing results and provide recommendations.
  • Support troubleshooting of transformers, relays, breakers, and other electrical equipment.
  • Perform and support NERC PRC, MOD, and FAC compliance studies, testing, reporting, and audits.
  • Support NERC RFIs, self-certifications, periodic data submissions, and regulatory audits.
  • Provide electrical engineering input for new development and M&A activities, including technical reviews and operational risk assessments.
  • Support root-cause analysis, risk assessment, engineering processes, procedures, and tools.
