Akima Infrastructure Services (AIS) seeks an experienced electrical design engineer for CNS mission engineering at Y-12 and related sites. You will provide full-time electrical design support for facility and production areas to expedite closure of Change Requests returned to service.

Requirements include ABET-accredited BS in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years in relevant work, and the ability to obtain DOE Q clearance. Pre-employment drug screening and medical exams may be required.

Qualifications

• Requires an ABET accredited BS Degree in Electrical Engineering with 10+ years of relevant professional experience.
• Ability to obtain DOE Q clearance and maintain it.
• DOE Q clearance preferred.
• Pre-employment drug screen is required for external applicants.
• Medical examinations may be required before placement.
• Work may involve securing a DOE clearance and WSAP program participation if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Develop design outputs per CNS and national standards (NFPA 70/NEC, ASME, etc.).
• Experience in NRC/DOE regulated environments and conduct of engineering/operations for nuclear facilities.
• Strong communication to interface with production and support teams.
• Review Change Requests for RTS >90 days that are not closed.
• Identify Affected Documents to reflect CR work RTS.
• Perform walkdowns to verify CR work completion.
• Review and compare documents to CR work scope.
• Prepare redline markups to reflect CR work.
• Provide redlined documents to drafting for incorporation into the Parent CM document.
• Verify that documents reflect CR information correctly.

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and Administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant located in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance Y-12's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day‑to‑day direction and assignments from Y-12 staff employed directly by the security complex. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre‑employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Responsibilities

Provide CNS Mission Engineering with full‑time electrical design engineering support in Y-12 Facility Design for facility and production area activities needed to expedite the closure of Change Requests for Configuration Managed systems that have been returned to service for longer than 90 days. The responsibilities for the design engineer are:

• Engineers must have familiarity with and experience in developing design output in accordance with CNS and consensus national standards (i.e. NFPA 70/ National Electrical Code, ASME, etc.).

• Experience in a NRC or DOE regulated environment is desirable along with an understanding of Conduct of Engineering and Conduct of Operations for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various production and support organizations.

• Review Change Requests (CRs) for systems that have been Returned to Service (RTS) >90days that have not been closed.

• Identify the Affected Documents associated with CRs RTS that need to be revised to reflect the work covered by the CR.

• Perform walkdowns as needed to verify that the work covered by the CRs has been performed.

• Review and compare information shown on Affected Documents to work defined by the CRs.

• Prepare redline markups of Affected Documents to reflect the incorporation of the work covered by the CRs.

• Provide the redlined copy of the Affected Documents to drafting personnel for incorporation onto the Parent CM document.

• Provide check/verification that Affected Documents reflect incorporation of CR information correctly.

Qualifications

• Requires an ABET accredited BS Degree in Electrical Engineering discipline plus 10 or more years of relevant professional experience.

• Ability to obtain Q clearance required. Ability to obtain/maintain DOE Q Clearance

• DOE Q clearance preferred

• Pre‑employment Drug Screen - External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post‑offer, pre‑employment drug test.

• Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre‑placement medical examinations may be required for this position.

• This position may require the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre‑employment drug screen.
