Job summary

Akima Infrastructure Services (AIS) is seeking Engineering and related professionals to support the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN, and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, TX. Positions are on AIS payroll but receive direction from Y-12 staff, with pay and benefits provided by AIS.

Qualified candidates must be a US citizen, 18+, and able to obtain DOE clearance. Some roles require field work, with minimal travel and a 4/10 schedule in a secure environment.

Qualifications

  • Associates or higher degree in a technical field with 10–15 years of related experience, or high school diploma with 20+ years; may lead other technicians.
  • Ability to obtain a Q-clearance.
  • Experience with low and medium voltage power distribution and industrial control systems.
  • Experience with NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A.

Responsibilities

  • Drafting in Bentley MicroStation: one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, lighting/power plans, installation details, Instrumentation and Controls Diagrams, conduit/cable schedules, fire alarm and communication drawings.
  • Preparing data sheets, specifications, and walkdown reports.
  • Work in concert with electrical engineers and other CAD drafters from the same work group.
  • Must be able to support construction and operational activities related to design outputs.
  • Field walkdowns required in radiological contaminated areas.
  • Little to no travel (<5%).
  • Typical work schedule Mon.-Thu. 10-hour days (4/10).

Job description

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS), is actively seeking Engineering, Professional, Technical, and administrative support personnel as part of our staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and the Pantex Plant located in Amarillo, Texas.

Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance Y-12's core mission to ensure a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent, which is essential to national security. Though employed by AIS, the employee will take day-to-day direction and assignments from Y-12 staff employed directly by the security complex. Pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions are provided by AIS.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

This position is contingent upon contract award and funding. Applicants selected may be offered but cannot begin work until funding has been confirmed.

This position will support the Y-12 Division Managed Design Engineering Field Design Support group.

Qualifications
  • Associates or higher degree in a technical field and 10 to 15 years of related experience or high school diploma and 20+ years of relevant experience. Requires demonstrated in-depth knowledge and skills in technical specialty. Individuals in this group may lead other technicians by planning and providing work direction. Recognized as an expert in their field.
  • The ability to obtain a Q-clearance will be required.
  • Experience with low and medium voltage power distribution and industrial control systems
  • Experience with NFPA 70, NFPA 79, and UL508A
Special Requirements
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy and would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.
  • Pre-employment Drug Screen - external applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post- offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Medical Exam(s) - Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
