Job summary

bp Terminals & Pipelines is seeking an Electrical Engineer to oversee electrical power systems, instrumentation and control systems on bp’s pipeline facilities in the Midwest.

You will work with operations, maintenance and project teams, ensure modifications follow bp standards and safety; provide technical guidance for MOC, capital projects, risk assessments and RCFA, and support asset integrity through testing and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and related oil & gas experience.
  • Relevant experience in oil & gas / petrochemical maintenance, reliability, and/or project engineering.
  • Strong understanding of industry codes relevant to electrical construction practices and safety in oil & gas / petrochemical facilities (NFPA 70 NEC, NFPA 70E, API RP 500).
  • Experience in electrical system studies and arc flash evaluation; SKM PowerTools preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead fixing electrical issues in day-to-day pipeline operations and coordinate vendor support.
  • Provide input for MOC, Capital Projects, Risk Assessments (HAZOPs) and RCFA.
  • Ensure MOC compliance with bp site technical practices and safety standards.
  • Assist maintenance personnel and contractors with electrical equipment installation and commissioning activities.
  • Support instrumentation and electrical system integrity programs, including PMs and testing reviews.
  • Maintain up-to-date electrical one-line diagrams, schematics, wiring diagrams, and drawings.
  • Keep power system studies current with design changes (load flow, short circuit, coordination).
  • Assist projects team with technical guidance on feasibility, design, and equipment selection.
  • Provide technical direction for isolation procedures to ensure personnel safety.
