In this role, you will be working directly with facility operations, maintenance, and project execution teams, as well as with other engineering fields across multiple pipeline segments/sites.

This position supports day-to-day pipeline operations, reliability improvements, safety initiatives, and the development of technical builds for new projects. The role identifies lessons learned and improvement opportunities, and reviews capital and expense projects performed in‑house or by bp’s contract engineering firms. You will verify that modifications and new project builds follow bp technical standards, safety practices, applicable regulatory requirements, and are fit for purpose.

This role works under the EC&I Engineering Team Lead and may provide remote support to other assets at times within Terminal and Pipelines business.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Provide leadership and technical support for fixing and solving the electrical issues that may occur in day-to-day pipeline operations. Be able to interface and work with operations and maintenance personnel. Coordinate vendor support as needed and lead the team through resolution, root cause identification, and follow‑ups.
  • Provide technical electrical and control system input and build support for the facilities’ Management of Change (MOC), Capital Projects, Risk Assessments (HAZOPS) and Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA).
  • Facilitate MOC compliance with bp’s T&P site technical practices, safety standards, and compliance with the regulatory codes and standards.
  • Provide technical assistance and direction to and assistance of bp’s maintenance personnel, contractors and suppliers regarding construction, installation, and commissioning activities associated with electrical related facility modifications.
  • Provide assistance and technical direction to pipeline maintenance personnel in the implementation of instrumentation and electrical equipment and system Integrity Management (IM) standards, including in‑service inspection and testing programs such as Preventative Maintenance (PM’s), evaluation of maintenance inspection and testing reports, failure investigations, equipment repairs and reliability improvement programs.
  • Ensure key electrical facility documents are maintained and up to date including electrical one‑line diagrams, motor elementary and schematics, wiring diagrams, area classification drawings, cable schedules, panel board schedules, raceway layouts, installation details, and electrical equipment vendor data.
  • Ensure all power system studies are kept up‑to‑date with the facilities’ electrical design changes. This includes the following studies: load list, load flow, short circuit, motor starting, arc flash hazard analysis, and protective relay coordination and programming.
  • Assist the projects team with technical guidance related to project feasibility, prioritization, lead‑case evaluation, technical design, equipment selection, operating philosophy, etc.
  • Provide technical assurance reviews of electrical isolation (Lockout/Tagout) procedures to ensure personnel safety.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Relevant experience in oil & gas / petrochemical maintenance, reliability, and/or project engineering experience
  • Strong understanding of industry codes relevant to Electrical construction practices and safety in oil & gas / petrochemical facilities (NFPA 70 NEC, NFPA 70E, API RP 500, and other various NFPA and IEEE)
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in supporting operations in a manufacturing environment, and the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Motor Control Centers (Low and Medium voltage), motors (fractional through thousands of HP), Switchgear (Low and Medium volage), power transformers, raceways and hazardous/classified area installations.
  • Experienced in electrical system studies, relay programming (SEL/Multilin) and arc flash evaluation. SKM PowerTools experience is preferred.
  • Ensures technical changes are managed appropriately with a focus on attention to detail and alignment to standards.
  • Able to pull from previous experience to bring tangible value to the pipeline business and improve work practices within the engineering team.
