Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • Active PE license required.
  • 9+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • MEP design experience for buildings (commercial/government).
  • Proficient with NEC/NFPA and related standards.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and specs.
  • Strong communication and independent decision-making skills.
  • U.S. Citizenship; security clearance eligibility may be needed.

Electrical Engineer, PE - Discipline Lead (MEP)

Location: Englewood, CO | Chicago, IL | Dallas, TX

Employment Type: Full-Time

Reports To: MEP Department Head

Travel: Up to 20%

Compensation Range: $109,000 – $139,000+ (DOE)

They are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer, PE - Discipline Lead to oversee electrical design initiatives, drive technical execution, and lead a team of engineers within an expanding MEP practice.

Position Overview

This role blends hands‑on electrical engineering design work with leadership responsibilities. The Discipline Lead will be accountable for guiding project delivery within the electrical engineering discipline, ensuring technical accuracy, mentoring junior staff, and supporting overall department operations such as workload management and quality assurance.

Roughly 50% of the role will focus on project engineering work, with the remaining time dedicated to leadership, team development, and operational support.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Design
  • Develop electrical system designs for healthcare and commercial environments, including power distribution, lighting systems, low voltage, and telecommunications infrastructure
  • Create design strategies, perform system evaluations, and recommend improvements or upgrades to existing systems
  • Interpret project Statements of Work (SOW) and convert requirements into detailed engineering designs
  • Complete engineering calculations such as load analysis, voltage drop, short circuit, coordination studies, arc flash analysis, and equipment sizing/selection
  • Prepare and review construction drawings and specifications in alignment with applicable codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, and relevant government requirements)
  • Collaborate with architects and other engineering disciplines to coordinate system layouts
  • Support construction-phase activities including field observations, submittal reviews, and responses to RFIs
  • Help maintain project schedules, budgets, and technical deliverable quality
Leadership / Discipline Lead Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of up to 8 electrical engineering professionals, including Engineers-in-Training (EITs)
  • Oversee time tracking for direct reports and support performance evaluation processes in coordination with leadership
  • Develop structured training and mentorship plans to support technical growth and career development
  • Manage workload distribution across the team to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables
  • Support resource planning and staffing allocation in collaboration with department leadership
  • Promote a positive, collaborative, and high-performing team environment
  • Contribute to internal standards, engineering best practices, and continuous improvement efforts
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 9+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience
  • Background in MEP design for commercial and/or government building projects
  • Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA codes, and applicable technical standards
  • Experience preparing construction documents, drawings, and technical specifications
  • Proficiency with tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Suite, MS Project, and electrical analysis platforms (e.g., EasyPower)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and make confident technical decisions with limited oversight
  • U.S. Citizenship required; eligibility for security clearance may be necessary
  • Experience supporting federal projects (DoD, VA, or other government work) preferred, though strong commercial experience will also be considered
