Job summary

Niowave, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design, implement, troubleshoot, and upgrade electrical and control systems used in linear accelerators and associated radiological production equipment.

The role emphasizes high-voltage electronics, RF/pulsed power, and radiation-safety compliance in a radiological environment, with collaboration across multi-disciplinary teams to ensure reliability and safety.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years' experience with progressive complexity.
• Experience with high-voltage/high-power electronics, high-power RF systems, pulsed power, or similar complex scientific instrumentation (e.g., klystrons), PLC programming, and control systems (EPICS or similar).
• Hands-on experience with troubleshooting in radiation environments, vacuum systems, or beamline instrumentation.
• CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical) and simulation software.
• Knowledge of radiation safety, interlock systems, and regulatory requirements for radiological facilities.
• Develops and maintains good relationships, gains the confidence of others, and works effectively in a multidisciplinary matrix environment.
• Understands how to integrate into a new team/organization.
• Appreciates the current state of systems and processes and exercises sound judgment in proposing and implementing improvements.
• Displays excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
• Possesses strong organizational and project management skills for self and teams.
• Demonstrates a system-level thinking and integration mindset.

Responsibilities

• Designs, installs, and commissions electrical systems including high-voltage power supplies, pulsed modulators, klystrons, and RF distribution networks for the electron linac.
• Maintains and troubleshoots accelerator components such as electron guns, accelerating structures, beam diagnostics, vacuum systems, and magnet power supplies.
• Develops and implements control systems (PLC-based or embedded) for beam monitoring, interlocks, and personnel/radiation safety systems.
• Documents designs, procedures, and modifications; participate in safety reviews and root cause analyses for electrical or beam-related incidents.
• Supports integration of new technologies, such as superconducting RF components or advanced diagnostics, to enhance production scalability.
