Job summary

Ahlstrom is seeking an Electrical Engineer Intern for the summer of 2027 at the Kaukauna mill. You will work with experienced engineers to support electrical systems, automation, and capital projects in a busy paper manufacturing environment.

You will apply classroom knowledge, assist with troubleshooting and improvements, and participate in reliability initiatives to enhance equipment performance while spending time on the production floor.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering degree program.
• Minimum sophomore standing preferred.
• Interest in industrial electrical systems, automation, controls, or manufacturing processes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing setting and spending time on the production floor.
• Ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
• Experience with PLCs, AutoCAD, electrical design software, or industrial automation systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Must follow Ahlström’s manufacturing and hygiene processes, procedures and policies, as applicable, to the position’s areas of responsibility, in order to meet and maintain the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance requirements for each grade of paper.
• Assist with troubleshooting and improving electrical and control systems throughout the mill.
• Support engineers with electrical design, modifications, and upgrades to manufacturing equipment.
• Participate in reliability and continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment performance.
• Assist with PLC, instrumentation, motor control, and automation projects.
• Analyze equipment performance data and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and reduce downtime.
• Support capital project planning, execution, and commissioning activities.
• Develop and update electrical drawings, documentation, and technical procedures.
• Work closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify and resolve equipment issues.
• Participate in safety programs and help ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.

Thilmany is seeking a motivated and hands‑on Electrical Engineer Intern to join our engineering team for the summer of 2027. This position provides hands‑on experience in a complex manufacturing environment where you will work alongside experienced engineers to support electrical systems, process improvements, reliability initiatives, and capital projects.

This role offers a unique opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real‑world engineering challenges while contributing to the safe and efficient operation of a paper manufacturing facility.

Pay Rate

• $27.00 per hour
• Housing stipend available for qualified candidates relocating to the Kaukauna area for the duration of the internship assignment.
