Job summary

County of Hawai‘i seeks a professional electrical engineer to review and analyze electrical designs, plans and specifications for code compliance. The role includes approving designs and preparing complex reports, with opportunities to travel to various project sites.

A Hawai‘i-licensed PE is required, along with travel ability. The position is a permanent, full-time vacancy in the Building Division of the Department of Public Works in Hilo.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• Three (3) years of professional electrical engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Reviews a variety of electrical designs, plans and specifications for adequacy and compliance with code and departmental requirements.
• Approves and/or recommends approval or rejection of plans and specifications.
• Prepares and analyzes designs for power distribution, street lighting, traffic signals, alarms and communication systems.
