County of Hawai'i in Hilo seeks a licensed professional electrical engineer to perform advanced work in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing electrical designs for code adequacy and departmental standards. The role involves evaluating plans submitted by private and government architects, approving or recommending actions, and coordinating with engineers and public agencies.
A bachelor's degree and PE license are required, along with travel to various sites.
Performs difficult professional engineering work in the preparation, review and/or analysis of electrical designs, plans, and specifications for adequacy and compliance with provisions of the electrical code and departmental standards; approves designs, plans, specifications, materials, or methods prepared or proposed; and performs other related duties as required.
There is one (1) immediate permanent full-time vacancy with the Department of Public Works - Building Division in Hilo.
(Appointment may be made at any rate within the salary range advertised above at which appropriate qualified applicants can be recruited. Starting salary will be based on the qualifications of the person selected.)
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.

the principles and practices of electrical engineering; engineering mathematics; techniques and methods of designing electrical and electronic systems; provisions of the National Electrical Code; functions and uses of new materials and devices; and sources of engineering information.
prepare and review electrical plans and specifications for a variety of electrical systems; design complicated electrical layout and systems; conduct field studies inspections to ascertain adequacy of existing electrical systems and recommends improvements to existing electrical systems; analyze electrical designs and check engineering computations; conduct engineering research; interpret technical provisions of the Electrical Code; prepare engineering reports and correspondence; and establish and maintain effective working relationships with engineers, architects, contractors, representatives from other governmental agencies and utilities, departmental staff, and the public.
