Job summary

County of Hawai'i in Hilo seeks a licensed professional electrical engineer to perform advanced work in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing electrical designs for code adequacy and departmental standards. The role involves evaluating plans submitted by private and government architects, approving or recommending actions, and coordinating with engineers and public agencies.

A bachelor's degree and PE license are required, along with travel to various sites.

Qualifications

  • Requires a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and 3 years of professional electrical engineering experience.
  • Registration as a professional electrical engineer in the United States is required at time of filing.
  • Ability to travel independently to various locations is required.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews a variety of electrical designs, plans and specifications for adequacy of design and for compliance with code and departmental requirements.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations for Electrical Code amendments.
  • Approves and/or recommends approval or rejection of plans and specifications affecting design or procedures.
  • Prepares and/or analyzes designs of electrical and electronic systems for power distribution, street lighting, traffic signal, alarm and communication systems, etc.
  • Analyzes designs of electrical systems for all types of buildings and structures including water systems and pumps and other structures requiring electricity.
  • Meets and confers with architects, engineers, and department personnel on matters concerning the application and technical interpretation of the Electrical Code.
  • Operates vehicle to travel to construction project sites; conducts field and office studies and prepares reports with recommendations.
  • Prepares complex contracts and specifications for equipment as appropriate.
