Job summary

County of Hawaiʻi is seeking an Electrical Inspector to inspect electrical installations and equipment in various buildings for compliance with County Electrical Ordinance, National Electrical Code, and engineered plans.

This role involves reviewing permit applications, issuing corrections and stop-work orders, and ensuring adherence to safety standards. A Hawaii Supervising Electrician license and a valid Hawaii driver's license are required.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and four (4) years of journey-level electrical experience, plus one (1) year in electrical code enforcement.
• Possession of a State of Hawai'i Supervising Electrician's license at time of filing.
• Possession of a State of Hawai'i Driver's license (Class 3) or valid comparable license at time of filing.

Responsibilities

• Inspect electrical installations and equipment in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings for compliance with codes and ordinances.
• Issue correction notices, stop work orders, and follow up on violations.
• Review plans and permit applications for electrical permits and verify fees.
• Inspect solar water heater and photovoltaic system installations for code compliance.
• Maintain records and prepare inspection reports.
