Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology.
  • 3+ years of progressive internal experience or 5+ years of industry experience in LED lighting topologies.
  • Experience with schematic capture/PCB layout tools such as PADS is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design LED lighting systems for harsh-environment applications with EMI/BCI considerations.
  • Apply LED lighting knowledge across automotive, powersports, and related markets.
  • Develop concepts for customer inquiries, RFQs, and new product proposals.
  • Represent electrical engineering in cross-functional teams to assess feasibility, cost, and design approaches.
  • Convert concepts into manufacturable designs and products.
  • Apply DFMEA, DFM/DFA and design reviews in the NPD process.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex circuitry with effective countermeasures.
  • Communicate with customers and suppliers on technical topics.
  • Mentor junior team members and uphold engineering discipline.

We are partnering with an innovative lighting manufacturer in Germantown, WI to identify an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a strong background in LED lighting topologies, harsh-environment applications, and cross-functional product development. This engineer will lead multiple active product designs, support new product development efforts, and ensure robust, manufacturable solutions aligned with customer and industry requirements.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, confident in their technical decision-making, and experienced in designing LED lighting products for automotive, powersports, and related markets.

Position Overview

This role focuses on designing LED lighting systems, evaluating technical feasibility, troubleshooting complex circuitry, and guiding products through the full NPD (New Product Development) process. The engineer will collaborate with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams while managing multiple projects in parallel.

Electrical Engineer II Responsibilities
  • Design LED lighting systems for harsh-environment applications with stringent EMI/BCI requirements
  • Apply strong working knowledge of LED lighting for automotive, motorcycle, UTV/ATV, and golf cart markets
  • Develop moderately complex concepts for customer inquiries, RFQs, and new product proposals
  • Represent electrical engineering in cross-functional teams (CFTs) to assess feasibility, cost, and design approaches
  • Convert conceptual ideas into manufacturable designs and products
  • Apply DFMEA, DFM/DFA, design reviews, and other structured engineering processes
  • Incorporate industry standards, regulatory requirements, and optimized manufacturing practices into product designs
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex circuitry or customer system issues with effective countermeasures
  • Communicate directly with customers and suppliers on technical topics
  • Manage personal priorities and ensure on-time delivery of engineering work
  • Drive timely completion of all required engineering elements within the NPD process and elevate issues when needed
  • Mentor junior team members and model strong engineering discipline
  • Create, update, and improve internal design standards, best practices, testing approaches, and tolerances
  • Develop expertise in 1-2 technical areas relevant to the business
  • Apply structured problem-solving methods to NPD and systemic engineering challenges
Qualifications for Electrical Engineer II
  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology
  • 3+ years of progressive internal experience or 5+ years of industry experience in LED lighting topologies
  • Experience with PADS or similar schematic capture/PCB layout tools is a plus
  • Strong electrical design aptitude with a hands-on approach
  • Ability to use schematic capture and PCB layout applications (PADS preferred)
  • Understanding of phase-gate NPD processes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally
