Job description

Description

An Electrical Engineer II independently troubleshoots complex printed circuit board assemblies and electrical subsystems used in EPC Power conversion systems. In this role an Electrical Engineer II will diagnose failures to the circuit or component level, lead structured root cause investigations, and develop corrective actions for production, development, and field-return issues. This role requires strong hands-on debug capability, sound circuit analysis, and the ability to solve difficult PCB problems with limited supervision.

Requirements

Responsibilities:

  • Independently troubleshoot complex PCB assemblies that are not functioning as intended, including intermittent or difficult-to-reproduce failures.
  • Diagnose board-level failures to the circuit, component, layout, process, application, or system-interface level using a structured troubleshooting approach.
  • Analyze analog, digital, mixed-signal, communication, sensing, protection, power supply, gate-drive, isolation, and control circuits.
  • Use oscilloscopes, differential probes, current probes, logic analyzers, power analyzers, thermal cameras, curve tracers, soldering/rework tools, and other diagnostic equipment as appropriate.
  • Interpret schematics, PCB layouts, BOMs, datasheets, signal paths, test procedures, firmware interfaces, and production data to identify failure mechanisms.
  • Lead root cause investigations for recurring production failures, engineering test failures, returned PCB assemblies, and test escapes.
  • Develop troubleshooting plans, test setups, fault-isolation methods, and validation activities to confirm root cause and verify corrective action effectiveness.
  • Identify design, component, supplier, manufacturing, workmanship, handling, firmware-interface, or test-process contributors to PCB failures.
  • Prepare clear technical reports summarizing symptoms, evidence, analysis, root cause, corrective action, and verification results.
  • Work directly with Manufacturing, Quality, Supplier Quality, Service, Test, Firmware, and Design Engineering to close technical issues.
  • Mentor technicians and junior engineers in board-level diagnostic techniques, documentation discipline, and safe troubleshooting practices.
  • Participate in design reviews with emphasis on test coverage, reliability, manufacturability, and serviceability.
  • Other duties and responsibilities within the scope of position as needed or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field.
  • 3-7 years of relevant experience troubleshooting complex PCB assemblies, electronic systems, power electronics hardware, or industrial controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot PCB assemblies to the component or circuit-function level.
  • Strong understanding of analog, digital, mixed-signal, communication, power supply, sensing, control, and protection circuitry.
  • Proficiency with advanced oscilloscope measurements and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Ability to interpret PCB layout details, signal paths, grounding, isolation, creepage/clearance considerations, and component placement impacts.
  • Experience leading root cause investigations and documenting technical findings.
  • Ability to understand and comply with EPC Power safety policies, ESD controls, laboratory procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Ability to manage multiple investigations while maintaining accurate documentation and follow-through.
  • Ability to stand, sit, reach with hand and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and lift/move up to 50 pounds. Visual and hearing acuity required.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with inverters, converters, gate drivers, high-voltage circuits, embedded controls, or industrial power electronics.
  • Experience with CANBus, Modbus, Ethernet-based communication, waveform capture, data logging, and automated test methods.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, C, or other engineering analysis and automation tools.
  • Hands-on lab skills including soldering, rework, prototyping, cable harness fabrication, and custom test-fixture development.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, supplier quality, and returned material investigations.

  • Health Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • Vision Insurance
  • Disability Insurance
  • Employee Assistance Program
