Job summary

SAF-HOLLAND, Inc. in Missouri is seeking an Electrical Engineer I to support the design, development, validation, and launch of electronic brake and vehicle control systems for commercial vehicle applications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechatronics/Computer/Automotive Engineering or related field.
  • 0-3 years of engineering experience including internships/co-ops or senior design projects.
  • Preferred exposure to automotive, commercial vehicle, controls, or embedded systems with experience in electrical testing and troubleshooting; familiarity with vehicle communication protocols.
  • Technical skills include circuit analysis and electrical design, CANbus and SAE J1939 communications, SAE J2497 PLC communications, embedded systems fundamentals, vehicle diagnostics, data acquisition systems and MATLAB, LabVIEW, CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar tools.
  • Develop and execute laboratory and vehicle test plans; analyze data from brake and control systems.
  • Work with senior engineers to gain expertise in foundation brake systems, ABS/EBS controls, vehicle electrical architecture, trailer electrical systems and functional safety principles.
  • Advanced MS Office and strong written and verbal communication skills.

Job description

The Electrical Engineer I will support the design, development, validation, and launch of electronic brake and vehicle control systems for commercial vehicle applications. This role is a developmental engineering position within the Foundation Brake & Vehicle Controls team.

Working under the guidance of senior engineering staff, the Electrical Engineer I will develop expertise in Anti-Lock Braking Systems (ABS), Electronic Braking Systems (EBS), vehicle communications, diagnostics, and emerging vehicle control technologies. The role provides hands‑on exposure to product development, laboratory testing, vehicle validation, regulatory compliance, and customer support, while building the technical foundation required to become a subject matter expert.

Qualifications Required:
  • Qualification 1: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Qualification 2: 0-3 years of engineering experience. Internship, co-op, Formula SAE, Baja SAE, senior design project, or equivalent hands‑on engineering experience.
  • Qualification 4: Preferred exposure to automotive, commercial vehicle, controls, or embedded systems. Experience with electrical testing and troubleshooting. Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols.
  • Qualification 5: Technical skills preferred including circuit analysis and electrical design, CANbus and SAE J1939 communications, SAE J2497 PLC communications, embedded systems fundamentals, vehicle diagnostics, data acquisition systems and MATLAB, LabVIEW, CANalyzer, CANoe, or similar tools.
  • Qualification 6: Develop and execute laboratory and vehicle test plans. Have the ability to collect and analyze test data from brake and control systems.
  • Qualification 7: Work directly with senior engineers to gain expertise in foundation brake systems, ABS/EBS controls, vehicle electrical architecture, trailer electrical systems vehicle communications, functional safety principles and commercial vehicle regulations.
  • Qualification 8: Advanced MS Office products and must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
