Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking an experienced Brake Controls Software Engineer to lead development of safety‑critical brake systems. You will manage cross‑functional teams, coordinate supplier and in‑house activities, and guide GPDS processes to ensure timely, compliant software deliveries.

The role emphasizes validating requirements, performing TDRs, and supporting diagnostics, OTA updates, and test environments. A strong background in Automotive networks and model‑based design is essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required with 2 years of related experience.
  • Experience applying FMEA and QA processes using 8D, 5 Whys, Is/Is-Not and fishbone diagrams.
  • Experience managing multiple supplier and in‑house software teams to ensure on‑time delivery.
  • Develop solutions that meet full vehicle requirements and ensure braking system safety and reliability.
  • One year of experience with vehicle network protocols, AutoSAR, and SAE J1979.
  • Ability to collect data with digital/analog DAQ tools like CANalyzer.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, SysML for design and verification.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Brake Controls software engineering for safety‑critical electronic brake systems.
  • Coordinate software deliveries with suppliers and in‑house teams, including OTA updates and change management.
  • Guide supplier partners through GPDS processes.
  • Verify software requirements at milestones during development.
  • Deliver software work packages through the change management process.
  • Resolve brake controls software issues during development and warranty investigations.
  • Collaborate on cross‑module network communications.
  • Ensure compliance with Central Software ASPICE requirements.
  • Lead Software Technical Design Reviews (TDRs).
  • Investigate DTC issues including QED.
  • Support service manual development and driver assist features.
  • Support Breadboard/HiL and prototype vehicle builds.
  • Assist End‑of‑Line setup at assembly plants.

Job description

Responsibilities
  • Lead Brake Controls Software application engineer with in‑house and supplier software of safety critical electronic brake systems.
  • Manage Brake Controls software and calibration deliveries (Coordination with supplier and in‑house brake controls teams, program builds, Service software updates, Over‑The‑Air (OTA) software updates, and Change Management).
  • Guide electronic brake booster and electronic park brake supplier partners through the Ford Global Product Development System (GPDS).
  • Verify all software requirements are met at the appropriate milestone during development of the program.
  • Deliver software work packages through the software change management process.
  • Resolve all brake controls software issues found during program development along with current production warranty investigations.
  • Work with Cross‑Module network communication implementation.
  • Ensure compliance to Central Software requirements (ASPICE).
  • Lead Software Technical Design Reviews (TDRs).
  • Investigate Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) issues including Quality Early Detection (QED).
  • Support service manual development.
  • Support driver assist features.
  • Support the Breadboard/HiL.
  • Support prototype vehicle builds.
  • Support assembly plant End‑of‑line (EOL) setup and issue resolution.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Automotive Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • 2 years of experience with each of the following skills is required: 1. Applying FMEA and quality assurance processes to resolve engineering issues using 8D, 3‑Legged 5 Whys, Is/Is‑Not analysis, and fishbone diagrams to support efficient problem‑solving and program timing.
  • 2. Managing multiple supplier and in‑house software teams to ensure on‑time delivery of products meeting all requirements, supported by DVP&R planning, data analysis, and reporting documentation.
  • 3. Develop solutions that meet full vehicle requirements, address technical issues, and ensure the safety and reliability of complex braking systems in advanced vehicle environments by collaborating within automotive systems engineering teams.
  • 4. Diagnosing electromechanical systems and leading teams to develop robust designs while incorporating Functional Safety principles to ensure high quality, performance, reliability, and safety of brake control systems.
  • 1 year of experience with each of the following skills is required: 1. Designing, developing, diagnosing, and maintaining braking systems using vehicle network communication protocols, AutoSAR, and SAE J1979 to ensure regulatory compliance, enable efficient troubleshooting, and support advanced brake control technologies.
  • 2. Using digital and analog data acquisition systems, including CANalyzer, to collect data for investigating vehicle software issues and validating software requirements.
  • 3. Using controls modeling tools including MATLAB, Simulink, Stateflow, and SysML to design, analyze, and optimize complex systems, and to perform data analysis and requirement verification.
