BN Associates Inc. is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support sustaining and test engineering for hardware in consumer electronics. The role focuses on component engineering, BoM management, and ECO execution, working closely with firmware and quality teams.

Ideal candidates have 4+ years in hardware sustaining or related roles, strong datasheet literacy, and hands-on experience with Altium/Cadence tools in a product development environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 4+ years of experience in hardware sustaining, product engineering, or test engineering in consumer electronics or hardware manufacturing.
  • Excellent understanding of electronic component specifications, datasheets, and lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct full BoM scrubs to identify at-risk and EOL components; recommend and qualify alternate components.
  • Perform Change Impact Analysis on component changes, evaluating form, fit, and function with risk ratings.
  • Author and execute ECO packages including updated schematics, PCB layouts, CAD models, and validation plans.
  • Coordinate with firmware/software teams to validate releases against hardware configurations.
  • Conduct 8D Failure Analysis investigations including containment, root cause, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and design teams to resolve field and production failures.

Job description

Position: Electrical Engineer Hardware Sustaining & Test Engineering
Location: New York, NY (Onsite)
Exp: 4-8 years
Ideal candidate profile:

4 8 years in hardware/EE with hands-on component engineering experience in consumer electronics or wearables. Bonus if they've worked in an NPI (New Product Introduction) environment where they've seen products go from prototype to mass production.

We're looking to bring on an Electrical Engineering resource(s) for our System Validation team

What You Will Do
  • Conduct full Bill of Materials (BoM) scrubs to identify at-risk and End-of-Life (EOL) components; recommend and qualify alternate components.
  • Perform documented Change Impact Analysis (CIA) on component changes, evaluating form, fit, and function impacts with associated risk ratings.
  • Author and execute complete ECO packages including updated schematics, PCB layouts, CAD models, and validation plans.
  • Coordinate with firmware/software teams to validate releases against hardware configurations.
  • Conduct 8D Failure Analysis investigations including containment actions, root-cause identification, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with quality, manufacturing, and design teams to drive permanent resolution of field and production failures.
What You Will Bring
Education:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred).

Experience:

4+ years of experience in hardware sustaining engineering, product engineering, or test engineering in a consumer electronics or hardware manufacturing environment.

Skills & Competencies
  • Must Have: Electronic Component Engineering. This person should be an expert at working with individual electronic parts (chips, resistors, capacitors, connectors, sensors, etc.) that go onto a circuit board. Specifically, Reading & interpreting datasheets, Component lifecycle management and Component selection & qualification
  • Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB layout tools (Altium, Cadence OrCAD, or equivalent)
  • Experience with CAD/3D modeling tools for electromechanical design
  • Strong understanding of electronic component specifications, datasheets, and lifecycle management
  • Familiarity with firmware/hardware integration and embedded systems
  • Understanding of quality tools: 8D, FMEA, fishbone diagrams, 5-Why analysis
  • Familiarity with IPC standards (IPC-2221/2222, IPC-A-610, IPC-7351, IPC J-STD-001)for PCB design and manufacturing
  • Experience with PLM/PDM systems and formal change management processes
  • Experience with DFM/DFT (Design for Manufacturing/Test) principles
