Job summary

SMUD in Sacramento seeks a Journey Level Electrical Engineer to support EV charging infrastructure deployment and DER integration across the distribution grid. You will perform technical analysis, site assessments, and design studies, coordinating with operations, planning, and customer programs to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.

The role emphasizes collaboration, safety, and adherence to regulatory requirements, with a hybrid onsite work arrangement.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
At least three (3+) years of progressively responsible relevant work experience in electrical systems for electric utility assets.
Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Independently assess and model impacts of EV infrastructure, DERs, and related resources on SMUD’s grid.
Forecast EV adoption, charging load shapes, DER capacity growth, and load flexibility.
Provide technical analysis, site assessments, conceptual design, equipment sizing, and service upgrade recommendations for EV deployment.
Evaluate interconnection applications, perform system impact studies, and review protection requirements.
Develop engineering standards, procedures, and technical documentation for TE/DER integration.
Coordinate with distribution planning, operations, engineering, and customer programs.
