Komatsu Mining Corp. offers a two-year Engineering Residency, a project-based learning program with four modules across global product engineering, manufacturing, sales and service, and international product support.

The program includes mentorship, hands-on engineering experience, and leadership development opportunities. By program end, participants gain a broad understanding of Komatsu Mining, build a professional network, and map possible career paths within the company.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Engineering or equivalent; internship or full-time experience in engineering design desired.
• Experience with CAD tools desired.
• Participation in Lean Engineering and change management is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering projects to develop, maintain and support components, products, or services per market demands.
• Conduct engineering evaluations including investigations, calculations and tests with defined requirements.
• Provide conceptual and strategic solutions for engineering projects or evaluations.
• Lead groups supporting components, products and services in engineering processes.

Job Overview

The Komatsu Mining Engineering Residency is a two-year project-based learning program. Participants are assigned four modules over two years. These modules will cover various aspects of the Komatsu Mining business areas including global product engineering, manufacturing supply chain & operations, Sales & Service, and international product support. Each module finishes with a presentation to the leadership team

By the end of the residency program, participants will have a broad understanding of Komatsu Mining, will have built a professional network, gained skills that can be put to good use throughout their careers and developed a better understanding of the future career path they choose to follow.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Perform in engineering projects to develop, maintain and support components, products and/or services per market demands, as well as for continual process improvements.
• Perform or conduct engineering evaluations including investigations, basic calculations and tests that have well defined requirements and desired outcomes
• Provide conceptual and strategic solutions to solve problems that are associated with engineering projects or evaluations
• Take responsibility for one's own learning and development for the mutual benefit of one's self and the organization
• Act as a group leader for those who are supporting components, products and/or services as well as continual improvements in engineering processes
• Participate in and support programs for effective communication of engineering issues to ensure compliance with global standards for design and safety of products and services, as well as engineering best practices
• Participate in and support improvements to streamline engineering processes used to design, develop, maintain and support components, products, and/or services
• Participate in effective Change Management to achieve the desired organizational outcomes by successfully changing individual behaviors as needed
• Determine the cause of a field problem and propose corrective action if appropriate
• Perform basic engineering evaluations, including calculations and testing as required, and consult with more
• Make field trips to mines to observe machines in operation and gain an understanding of their application parameters. Develop ability to recognize problems and recommend corrective action.

Qualifications/Requirements

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant discipline, required
• Internship or full time experience in engineering design, machine application, mining industry, desired
• Experienced in the use of computer-aided design (CAD) tools, desired
• Participation in implementing Lean Engineering principles, desired
• Participation in effective Change Management implementation, desired
• Experience in cross-functional team assignment(s), highly desired
• Certifications or demonstrated project management, desired
• Professional registration and/or membership in committees and/or technical societies, beneficial.
