Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory seeks an Electrical Engineer to join the Propulsion Plant Team Trainer (PPTT) Programs & Engineering group. The PPTT is a full-scale propulsion plant hardware simulator used to support the Next Generation Training Program and train Navy Sailors who operate the reactors.

Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) Propulsion Plant Team Trainer (PPTT) Programs & Engineering (PPE) is looking for an Electrical Engineer to join their team! The PPTT subdivision is a multi-site organization engaged in the design, fabrication, assembly, installation, testing, and delivery of the PPTT, a full scale propulsion plant hardware simulator, to support the Next Generation Training Program (NGTP). PPE engineers are responsible for: PPTT components and modules, the interactive portion of the simulated environment, which will be integrated into the overall trainer; electrical and systems engineering of the trainer and supporting infrastructure; PPTT Integration, the holistic physical training envelope and supporting structure and interconnections; and project management of all related work efforts. An exciting opportunity is now available for entry-level electrical engineers to support these ongoing efforts; this work consists of electrical and systems engineering, development, and testing of the PPTT and its supporting system and testing facilities.

The successful candidate for this position will:

  • Plan and conduct independent work efforts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Interface with stakeholders to ensure project objectives are being met.
  • Perform electrical design reviews and technical interchanges with Suppliers as well as internal NNL stakeholders.
  • Support on-site hardware inspections and testing of production equipment at Supplier facilities and remote NNL sites.
  • Design, procure, install, test, and maintain the PPTT Test Platform, including PLC based distributed I/O systems and related network architecture, sound and communication systems, and electrical power control systems.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field; or
  • Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field.
Preferred Skills
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience with SolidWorks Electrical or equivalent CAD software.
  • Experience with Programmable Logic Controllers.
  • Experience with Distributed and Remote I/O systems.
  • Experience with audiovisual and telecommunications systems.
  • Experience evaluating, and creating, electrical designs based on approved technical requirements.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and make recommendations to senior project personnel.
  • Ability to work independently or in a group setting.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.

Pay Range

$63,900.00 - $97,800.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

All candidates must be U.S. citizens. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. FMP is a government contractor and maintains a drug free workplace and workforce. All candidates must be able to pass a drug test in compliance with FMP company policy and 10 CFR 707. Marijuana is a Federal Schedule I controlled substance and illegal under Federal Law. Therefore, FMP is required to test for marijuana.
