Job Title: Electrical Engineer - Power Systems Modeling (Hybrid)

Location: Holyoke, Massachusetts (Hybrid Work Model)

Overview

A leading power system operator is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support power system modeling, simulation, and analysis activities related to both renewable and conventional generation projects across New England's bulk power system. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects involving inverter-based resources such as wind, solar, battery storage, and hybrid energy systems, while collaborating with a variety of regional stakeholders.

How You'll Make an Impact

  • Review, analyze, and manage dynamic power system models (PSSE, PSCAD) for proposed generation additions and changes, including wind, solar, battery energy storage systems, hybrid resources, and transmission equipment such as FACTS and HVDC systems.
  • Conduct transmission system impact assessments, including steady-state, transient stability, and electromagnetic transient studies.
  • Support system studies through data analysis, simulations, and technical reporting.
  • Collaborate with New England stakeholders such as transmission owners, distribution owners, system operators, generators, developers, and state regulators.
  • Develop recommendations for regional reliability standards and study methodologies.
  • Support voluntary and mandatory compliance with standards from regulatory bodies such as NPCC, NERC, FERC, IEEE, CIGRE, and IEC.

What You Need to Be Successful

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electrical & Computer Systems Engineering (Master's degree preferred).
  • Experience with electric power system network analysis, transmission planning, and power system assessment techniques.
  • Proficiency in transient stability analysis (PSSE) and electromagnetic transient studies (PSCAD).
  • Proficiency in Python or similar scripting languages.
  • Strong understanding of control theory and power system dynamics.
  • Knowledge of NERC, NPCC, and Transmission Planning standards.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for stakeholder meetings, working groups, and industry conferences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-In-Training certification.
  • Experience participating in industry stakeholder committees or working groups.
  • Knowledge of ISO/NEPOOL tariffs, markets, and operational processes.
  • Familiarity with EMTP/PSCAD for electromagnetic transient analysis.
  • Experience with short-circuit analysis software (e.g., Aspen One-Liner).

  • Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States.
  • Travel requirement up to 5%, some overnight stays.
