Job description

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for sustaining engineering associated with the development of electronic hardware, including user interface control boards and other sub‑systems for consumer and commercial cardiovascular and strength equipment. The role works closely with other engineers (junior and senior) as well as technicians to drive quality improvements, cost reductions, provide support for end‑of‑life components, and perform other sustaining engineering tasks. The engineer resolves field issues focusing on high warranty items and reports to the director of the Life Fitness / Hammer Strength Electrical team.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Collaborate with global field support staff over e‑mail and conference calls to troubleshoot hardware issues.
  • Perform engineering‑level failure analysis of field return units and components.
  • Debug at system level and board level to determine consistent failure modes.
  • Drive timely improvements from analysis of returns to prevent further recurrence in the field.
  • Create troubleshooting documents such as knowledge base articles and service bulletins.
  • Collaborate within and outside the electrical engineering teams on cost‑reduction opportunities.
  • Perform and document detailed board‑level validation test on proposed sustaining changes.
  • Travel to customer sites and manufacturing locations, between 10–20% of time.
Skills & Capabilities
  • Ability to work across cross‑functional teams to resolve issues.
  • Proficiency in reading and analyzing electrical circuits and schematics.
  • Strong planning, organization, and communication skills.
  • Data analysis skills or a strong desire to learn them.
  • Experience using problem‑solving tools such as DFSS, 8D, and A3 (preferred).
  • Willingness to learn from senior engineers while taking charge of process improvements.
Education & Experience

B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an accredited four‑year institution is required. One to three years of experience is preferred (internship experience counts).
