Job summary

Hazen and Sawyer in Silver Spring, MD is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer to deliver electrical engineering and design for water and wastewater facilities, serving as lead electrical engineer when needed. You will support local and regional projects, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and mentoring junior staff.

The role requires a BS in Electrical Engineering, 5–14 years of relevant experience, and professional licensure with the ability to obtain additional state licenses.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
• 5-14 years of relevant experience in heavy industrial electrical engineering and design.
• Licensed as a registered professional engineer in at least one U.S. state; ability to be licensed in additional states.
• Experience with SKM or ETAP power system software.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or Revit BIM software.
• Experience in Microsoft Office products.
• Strong communication skills for interactions with clients, contractors and engineers.

Responsibilities

• Power systems design, including MV/LV distribution, generator design, motor controls and lighting for water/wastewater facilities.
• Prepare project specifications and edit electrical master specifications.
• Lead electrical engineer on multiple projects; manage scope, schedule and budget.
• Perform site visits from conceptual design through construction.
• Design work in AutoCAD and Revit as required.
• Perform power system studies in SKM and ETAP.
• Contribute to construction administration: review shop drawings, RFIs and change orders.
• Witness testing of electrical equipment and monitor field startup.
• Represent electrical discipline in client meetings and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Mentor less experienced staff and assist in business development and fee documents.
• Fill the role of Project Manager on selected electrical projects.

Hazen & Sawyer is seeking an Electrical Project Engineer for our Silver Spring, MD office. Candidate will provide electrical engineering and design for water and wastewater facility projects, serving as lead electrical engineer when required. Candidate will support projects both local to and regional to the office, as well as supporting projects in other areas as requested by the firm.

Key Responsibilities

• Power systems design, including medium and low voltage electrical power distribution, generator design, motor controls, VFDs, lighting systems, equipment layout and related activities at water and wastewater facilities
• Prepare project specifications and edit corporate electrical master specifications as needed to suit each project
• Serve as the lead electrical engineer on multiple concurrent projects. Ensure the work is performed in accordance with scope, schedule, and budget
• Perform site visits as needed from project conceptual design through construction
• Perform electrical design work in AutoCAD and/or Revit as required by the project
• Perform electrical power system studies in SKM and/or ETAP as required by the project
• Complete construction administration tasks including review of shop drawings, replies to requests for information, change order requests and similar tasks
• Perform factory witness testing of electrical equipment as required by the project
• Monitor and participate in the field testing and start-up of electrical systems
• Represent the electrical discipline in client project meetings
• Interaction with clients, contractors, and engineers from other disciplines
• Serve as a technical mentor for less experienced electrical staff
• Assist in business development activities such as proposal preparation
• Develop scope and fee documents for electrical portions of projects
• Fill the role of Project Manager for selected electrical projects.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering

• Experience with SKM or ETAP power system software

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the Water/Wastewater industry
• Experience with Bluebeam software and Bluebeam Studio
• Experience with instrumentation and control systems including instruments, operator interfaces, and PLCs
