Job summary

5V Tech, a NYC-based frontier electronics startup, seeks an Electrical Engineer to take electronic hardware from blank schematics to shipped products. You’ll partner with the founding engineering team to turn requirements into circuits, boards, and prototypes, then verify and test them for production readiness.

Ideal candidates have 3+ years in hardware design, strong analog/digital fundamentals, and experience with schematic/PCB tools. Master’s is a plus.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years in electronic circuit and PCB design.
• Proficiency with schematic/PCB tools (Altium, Cadence, KiCad).
• Solid grounding in analog/digital fundamentals, power electronics.
• Bench debugging with standard lab instrumentation.

Responsibilities

• Drive schematic capture and lead PCB layout, including component selection, footprints, and BOM management
• Run circuit simulation and analysis (SPICE) covering power, signal integrity, timing, and thermal behavior
• Design power supplies, sensor interfaces, communication interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet, etc.), and MCU/processor subsystems
• Bring prototypes to life in the lab, debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other bench equipment
• Work closely with firmware, mechanical, verification, and test engineers throughout the build
• Produce design documentation and review packages, and drive DFM and cost reduction efforts
• Support compliance work (EMC/EMI, safety, regulatory) as designs mature

About the role

We're recruiting an Electrical Engineer to take electronic hardware from a blank schematic to a shipped product. You'll work shoulder to shoulder with the founding engineering team, turning product requirements into real circuits, real boards, and real prototypes, then seeing each one through verification and test. This is a build fast, ship real things kind of role, ideal for an engineer who wants to help define what electronics looks like in the age of AI.

Key responsibilities

• Drive schematic capture and lead PCB layout, including component selection, footprints, and BOM management
• Run circuit simulation and analysis (e.g. SPICE) covering power, signal integrity, timing, and thermal behavior
• Design power supplies, sensor interfaces, communication interfaces (I²C, SPI, UART, USB, Ethernet, etc.), and microcontroller/processor subsystems
• Bring prototypes to life in the lab, debugging with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other bench equipment
• Work closely with firmware, mechanical, verification, and test engineers throughout the build
• Produce design documentation and review packages, and drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and cost reduction efforts

Ideal profile

• Bachelor's degree in EE or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of hands-on electronic circuit and PCB design experience
• Proficiency with a schematic/PCB design tool (e.g. Altium, Cadence, KiCad)
• Solid grounding in analog and digital fundamentals, power electronics, and high-speed design concepts
• Comfortable debugging hardware at the bench with standard lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, etc.)

Preferred qualifications

• Master's in Electrical Engineering
• Proficiency using Ansys HFSS, SIwave, Icepak, or CST
• Experience taking a product through the full lifecycle to volume production
• Familiarity with signal-integrity and power-integrity analysis tools
• Scripting ability (e.g. Python) for design automation or data analysis
• Exposure to EMC/regulatory compliance testing
