Job summary

bp is seeking a Project Designer to join the Conifer Systems Engineering team in Houston, reporting to the Director of Engineering. The role focuses on developing equipment design drawings and performing engineering work with safety and reliability at the forefront.

The ideal candidate brings 3–5 years of related experience, strong Solidworks CAD skills, and familiarity with industry standards. This hybrid role requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to collaborate across teams.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma with two-year technical school or associate degree in engineering preferred.
  • 3–5 years experience in landfill gas to energy, RNG, or related mechanical fields.
  • Strong Solidworks CAD modeling skills and ability to produce shop drawings.
  • Familiarity with ASME, AISC, OSHA, AGA and ASTM standards.
  • Excellent written and oral communication; strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and pass background check and drug test.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with Conifer Systems Engineering to develop equipment design drawings.
  • Conducts design analysis and ensures safety, reliability and cost considerations.
  • Prepare instruction and operation manuals.
  • Review and check coworker and vendor work; manage priorities and deadlines.

Archaea Energy, a bp company, is a leader in landfill gas to energy and the largest renewable natural gas (RNG) producer in the US. With big ambitions, we specialize in the development, construction and operation of RNG, landfill-gas-to-electric and dairy digester facilities. The team operates around 50 sites in 32 states with a robust development pipeline.

About the role

The Project Designer position will be responsible for working with our Conifer Systems Engineering team. This position will report to the Director of Engineering and be located at our Houston location.

Key accountabilities
  • Collaborates as key contributor in nimble, progressive and dedicated team planning, scheduling and coordinating detailed phases of engineering work for packaged equipment
  • Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements
  • Works with Project Engineers to develop equipment design drawings.
  • Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to project management providing design input regarding process improvement, reliability, and safety
  • Technically competent understand selected equipment sizing and application with regard to cost, value, application suitability, safety, and reliability
  • Reviews and checks work coworkers and vendors
  • Approach all designs with safety as top priorities
  • Preparation of instruction and operation manuals
  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager
Essential education
  • High School Diploma preferably followed with two year technical school or associate degree, engineering degrees
Essential experience
  • Strong Solidworks CAD modeling skills including routing.
  • Professional Solidworks experience producing models and shop drawings.
  • 3-5 years related experience in landfill gas to energy, High BTU/ RNG, oil refinery, Mechanical Industry, chemical process, gas process and/or technical experience
  • Understanding of ASME, AISC, OSHA, AGA & ASTM standards
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize projects
  • Proficient on Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Creative, flexible, and innovative team player
  • Working knowledge of data collection, data analysis, evaluation, and scientific method
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must pass background check and drug test
  • Experience communicating accurately and frequently with supervisors, manager and engineering team
Desirable criteria
  • Gas processing using membrane, pressure swing adsorption, and solvent adsorption processes
  • Gas compression equipment

How much do we pay? $87,000 - $115,000. *Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.

This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours of vacation per year for full times employees (60 - 240 hours of vacation per year for part time employees). You will also be eligible for 9 paid holidays per year and 2 personal choice holidays.
