Job summary

Makino is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design controls for its product lines, including horizontal and vertical machining centers and transport systems. You will create electrical/control designs for standard and customer-specific options, and maintain documentation across Makino’s machining centers.

You will provide technical support to sales, customers, and field service while staying current with relevant electrical standards.

Job description

Summary

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design of controls systems for the Makino product lines, including horizontal machining centers, vertical machining centers, and transport systems. The controls designs include standard options required for the North American and South American markets, along with custom options that are required for special customer requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES and AUTHORITIES

include the following. Others may be assigned.

  • Develop electrical/control designs for special Makino product options and the required documentation for special options/modifications per customer request/order to accurately represent the completed designs.
  • Maintain and update, from Makino Japan engineering change notices, all electrical documentation for machining center products produced by Makino.
  • Provide technical support to sales/customers as required.
  • Provide technical support to Field Service as required to support the products.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the local governing regulations and specifications that pertain to the Makino product lines.
  • Communicate with MT on electrical technical matters concerning local products and other products.
  • Work with and suggest new concepts for product/system improvements while keeping current of latest technology and the competition’s specifications.
  • Keep manager/supervisor advised as to the status of all assigned projects.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
  • Frequent contact with other departments of company, vendors, occasional contact with customers and upper staff.
  • Interface with vendors, customers, and other Makino team members to successfully complete assigned projects and tasks.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with AutoCAD or other electrical design packages utilized within the group
  • Knowledge of electrical design practices
  • Knowledge of applicable industrial electrical standards & regulations
  • Experience with ladder logic programming is desirable but not required
  • Working knowledge of machine control systems and their application to the Makino product lines
  • Able to utilize Office products: Word, Excel, etc.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective technical leadership skills to direct peer engineers on technical matters

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
  • A 2-year associate’s degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent work experience is required. A 4-year degree in an Engineering discipline is preferred.

General office and shop with low amounts of travel for presentations, shows, and on site system installation and technical support for external Engineering and Manufacturing resources and MM customers. While performing the responsibilities of the position, the individual is required to communicate verbally, both in person and over the phone. The individual is required to remain stationary and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. Must be able to use a keyboard, monitor, and calculator. Other physical requirements include moving and reaching with arms and hands. Clarity of vision at close distances is required. Individual is occasionally required to move weights averaging less than 10lbs with a maximum of 35 lbs.

Mostly office conditions. The job requires extensive hours at CRTs. Work with strict deadlines. Infrequent travel to customer sites required with conditions associated with production activities, i.e. high noise, coolant mist, etc.
