ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Responsibilities
- Lead failure mode analysis to identify, improve and reduce spend on high spend items (motors, bearings, etc.).
- Work with finance to identify high cost repair equipment, identify root cause of failure, and modify to reduce maintenance spend.
- Evaluate incoming power, electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs, applying knowledge of electricity and materials.
- Confirm system's and components' capabilities by designing testing methods and testing properties.
- Build control systems capable of providing insight into the condition of the operation (rate, downtime, operating efficiency, quality) and highlight areas for improvement.
- Adhere to all safety, USDA, HACCP, and applicable rules and regulations.
- Support construction, maintenance and testing of equipment, machinery and components.
- Interpret drawings of equipment to properly adjust, maintain or repair the machinery.
- Respond to requests by production area when mechanical/electrical issues with equipment have been identified.
- Communicate with production management and personnel to diagnose problems and determine potential mechanical/electrical problems.
- Complete assigned tasks with accuracy and efficiency, in regards to time as well as resources.
- Troubleshoot, maintain and repair complex systems and equipment in one or more areas of assignment electrical systems.
- Maintain records of installation and maintenance to track activities; prepare status reports for projects.
- Coordinate projects related to installation, maintenance and repair work within area of assigned duties, including planning and scheduling; may provide project lead direction to staff in technical areas of assignment.
- Inspect contractor’s work and monitor underground utilities ensuring compliance with specifications, standards and timelines.
- Operate specialized equipment in areas of specialization such as Poultry OEM equipment, Baggers, Ishidas, electrical testing devices.
- Assist in electrical installation and repair of Poultry equipment, service transformers, service switchboards, distribution panelboards, MCCs, and automation systems.
- Have a thorough knowledge of NEC and other codes; understand and apply concepts of voltage drop, conductor sizing, conduit fill, etc.
- Arc Flash calculation experience is beneficial but not required.
- Work with outside contractors and engineering firms to ensure plans, specifications and bid documents meet Pilgrim’s requirements and safety standards.
- Edit electrical specifications; comprehend one-line diagrams with limited input from Engineers and documentation.
- Solve installation problems with electrical systems; travel to sites to resolve issues.
- Review calculations for electrical loads and panel schedules.
- SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE: select correct wire thickness for respective demand in compliance with NEC and UL codes, based on load calculations; identify electric and electronic components as needed to achieve a cost effective option.
- Develop and lead a team to develop functional descriptions, wiring schematics, design layouts, electrical diagrams and product specifications that meet cost-effective requirements for poultry support equipment.
- Assist in the development and review of budget estimates; engineering estimates include time, materials, labor, and costs required to complete a project.
- Coordinate with outside Engineering firms to ensure plans, specifications and bid documents meet Pilgrim’s requirements and safety standards.
- Review bid documents to ensure project-specific versions of Pilgrim’s contracts, standards, specifications and safety documents are included.
- Create detailed scope of work for each project, including site limitations and restrictions.
- Coordinate with outside Engineering firms to ensure design documents, equipment and sub-contractors meet Pilgrim’s requirements and standards.
- Review RFIs and direct to the appropriate party for answers; provide responses to Corporate Engineering for distribution to bidders.
- Assist Corporate representatives with estimating and writing project scope change requests.
- During construction/remodel phases, perform site visits to ensure design and equipment installation requirements are met.
- Ensure Pilgrim’s Safety work permit policies are in place, followed, and records maintained.
- Computer Skills: Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, Visio, PowerPoint; familiarity with AutoCAD.
Education and/or Experience
- BS or MS in Electrical Engineering
- 5 years of experience in related field
- Strong, proven problem solver
- Self-starter / highly motivated
Location
This position will be located at one of Pilgrim's Texas locations: Nacogdoches, TX; Mt. Pleasant, TX; Waco, TX; or Lufkin, TX. Not a remote position.
