Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team in support of the Los Alamos National Laboratory. This full-time position will be based in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering and significant design engineering experience.

Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer to join our team supporting Los Alamos National Laboratory. This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a full range of design engineering responsibilities in support of facility design, operation, and maintenance activities. This role requires applying broad and diversified knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and DOE complex requirements.
  • Perform conventional engineering design, analysis, and calculations.
  • Develop, review, and support engineering design packages.
  • Provide construction, field, and project engineering support.
  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a multi discipline team.
  • Apply engineering technology and tools to deliver high quality work.
  • Interface with stakeholders across disciplines in a fast paced environment.
Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited University and 3+ years of relevant experience for level 2 engineer, 8+ years for level 3 engineering role.
  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance. A "Q" clearance will be required for the candidate but it is not required to start the position.
  • Familiar with low power, <480, 208 and 120.
  • Prior design experience in power.
  • Experience with construction documentation and specs.
  • Experience mitigating the field.
  • Working knowledge of industry, regulatory, and DOE/NNSA codes, standards, and criteria relevant to electrical engineering.
  • Proven knowledge of commonly applied codes and standards at DOE and DoD facilities (e.g., NQA‑1, IBC, NFPA, NEC).
  • Prior experience facilitating and developing engineering design packages.
  • Familiarity with typical engineering deliverables (e.g., construction documents).
  • Experience with computer‑aided design/drafting software or markup tools.
About the Site

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering (energy.gov).
