Job summary

GEM Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Engineering Technologist, Atmospheric Instrumentation to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory in Los Alamos, NM. This full-time role supports maintenance, testing, and deployment of ARM mobile facilities and related atmospheric instrumentation.

You will work with national labs and research partners, manage inventories, document shipments, and follow safety and site procedures. U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a government clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field; advanced degree may be considered.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities; ability to document work clearly.
  • Experience organizing inventory and maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inventory management and instrument maintenance and repair.
  • Build and foster relationships with staff from national labs and research institutions.
  • Request, receive, and document shipments and procurements.

  • Participate in other special projects as assigned.

Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Engineering Technologist, Atmospheric Instrumentation to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico with very occasional short‑term travel (up to 10%) for training and site operations support of the ARM Mobile Facility 1 (AMF1), currently deployed in Phoenix, AZ – travel reimbursement under GSA would apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Support maintenance, testing, and deployment preparation of the ARM Mobile Facility 2 (AMF2), currently stationed at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) in Los Alamos, NM.
  • Perform inventory management and instrument maintenance and repair.
  • Build and foster relationships with technical and project management staff from national labs and research institutions across the country.
  • Request, receive, and document shipments and procurements.
  • Follow all site safety and code of conduct procedures.
  • Participate in other special projects as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or a related STEM field from an accredited institution; additional, relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Experience collaborating with a team to achieve shared goals.
  • Experience organizing, tracking inventory, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Experience troubleshooting electronics, networking protocols, and low‑voltage circuits; familiarity with the use of hand tools and digital multimeters.
  • Ability to work independently within a team, including the ability to take initiative, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
  • Essential Job Functions (with or without reasonable accommodation): sitting and standing; climbing stairs and ladders; lifting 20‑30 pounds to waist height; carrying 30‑50 pounds and loading into/out of shipping containers; kneeling; squatting; twisting; and bending. Job functions will be performed both indoors and outdoors, in a variety of environmental conditions; all personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.

  • Related leadership and/or mentorship experience.
  • Interest in DOE and/or climate research activities.
  • Experience operating, installing, testing, repairing, and maintaining outdoor scientific instrumentation.
  • Experience utilizing hand tools.
ABOUT THE SITE

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering (energy.gov).
