Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join our team supporting the Los Alamos National Laboratory! This position is full-time and will be based out of Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Responsibilities
  • Perform Design Engineering work in support of the Plutonium Facilities Engineering Rapid Response Team.
  • Support design engineering efforts across TA-55 from 1 of 2 facets:
    • Electrical Design Engineering
    • Civil/Structural Design Engineering
  • Responsible for assigned activities within an engineering discipline in support of facility design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Apply broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the preparation of complex engineering analyses.
  • Perform all aspects of work in engineering operations within discipline.
  • Perform conventional design and analysis.
  • Provide construction and project support.
  • Lead projects and supervise the work of others.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Utilize engineering technology to accomplish work.
Requirements
  • Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET Accredited college/university and 9+ years of practical work experience necessary to perform the responsibilities outlined above.
  • Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.
  • Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a Q Clearance and participate in the HRP program. Active "Top Secret" clearance will be accepted.
  • Must have expert knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to your engineering discipline.
  • Must have proven knowledge of applicable codes and standards in common use at DOE and DOD facilities (ASCE, ASME, NQA-1, IBC, IEBC, IEEE, NFPA, NEC, etc).
  • Must have extensive prior experience facilitating design package development.
  • Must have senior-level understanding of common engineering design document deliverables.
  • Must have experience in the use of common computer aided drafting software or mark-up software is desired.
  • Structural Engineering candidates must understand and have experience with RISA software or another similar software.
Desired Skills
  • Experience with AutoCAD, desired.
  • Finite element analysis software capability, desired.
  • Candidates with construction engineering (Electrical, Structural/Civil and Mechanical) experience, supporting design work - cradle to grave, desired.
  • Experience mentoring junior level engineer, desired.
About the Site

The NNSA's Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), located in Los Alamos, New Mexico, is a design laboratory responsible for the safety and reliability of the nuclear explosives package in nuclear weapons. This lab possesses unique capabilities in neutron scattering, enhanced surveillance, radiography, and plutonium science and engineering.
