Job summary

Johnson Matthey is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer for our Devon site in Pennsylvania. You will lead electrical safety programs, ensure regulatory compliance, and oversee capital and non-capital projects from scope to completion.

The role requires strong knowledge of NEC/NFPA standards, high/low voltage systems, AutoCAD design, and plant-wide electrical troubleshooting. Hybrid/onsite support and a commitment to safety are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five years in a manufacturing environment with a bachelor's degree, or ten years with an associate/technical degree.
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, OSHA, UL, NEMA and ANSI standards.
  • Expertise with high, medium and low voltage systems and equipment sizing for upgrades.
  • Experience with MCCs, VFDs, SCR controls, servo systems, robotics, instrumentation and sensors.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings; electrical troubleshooting in automated production.
  • Designing control panels for automated systems using AutoCAD; familiarity with arc flash analysis.
  • Project management experience including estimates, schedules and documentation; hazard reviews desirable.
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement in electrical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct studies to determine electrical requirements for equipment, systems and facilities for capital and non-capital projects.
  • Develop scope reports, equipment specs, bid requests, schedules, cost estimates and appropriation requests.
  • Supervise design, installation, start-up, testing and debugging of electrical/automated equipment.
  • Ensure final project documentation including as-built drawings, procedures and training guides.
  • Oversee preventative maintenance of distribution equipment such as transformers, switchgear and busways.
  • Manage arc flash study program and related safety requirements.
  • Assist maintenance in troubleshooting electrical issues; support may be required off shifts.
  • Implement continuous improvement projects to enhance safety, quality and efficiency.

The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation, regulatory compliance, and reliability of the electrical infrastructure at the Devon site. As the site’s Competent Person for electrical safety, this position will lead the site’s electrical safety program, ensuring training and competency requirements are met. In addition, this position is accountable for planning, designing, estimating, supervising, communicating, coordinating, and executing electrical projects. Responsibilities include maintaining the scope, schedule, and budget for all assigned projects. This position will also be responsible for assisting the maintenance department when troubleshooting issues related to electrical equipment.

The Role:

As an Electrical Engineer , you will help drive goals by:

  • Conduct and direct studies to determine electrical requirements of new/modified equipment, systems, and facilities for both capital and non-capital projects.
  • Develop project scope reports, equipment specifications, bid requests, schedules, cost estimates, and appropriation requests.
  • Supervise and direct the design, installation, start up, testing and debug of new or modified electrical and automated equipment.
  • Ensure final project documentation is complete including as built-drawings, procedures, and training guides.
  • Oversee the preventative maintenance of electrical distribution equipment such as transformers, switchgear, and busways.
  • Manage the site’s arc flash study program.
  • Assist maintenance department in troubleshooting electrical issues when necessary. This occasionally requires support during off shifts.
  • Implement continuous improvement projects on electrical systems to improve plant safety, quality, and efficiency.
Keys that will help you succeed in this role:
  • Associate or technical degree in electrical technology with a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a manufacturing environment OR a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable standards such as NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 70B, OSHA, UL, NEMA, and ANSI
  • Expertise in high, medium, and low voltage systems. Ability to calculate the available capacity of power distribution systems and ability to properly size transformers, busways, MCCs, and conductors for upgrades to ensure safety and sufficient capacity
  • Experience with MCCs, VFDs, SCR controls, servo systems, robotics, instrumentation, and sensors.
  • Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills as it relates to automated production machinery. Ability to interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
  • Experience designing control panels for automated systems using AutoCAD
  • Familiarity with incident energy calculations for arc flash events and familiarity with short-circuit current ratings
  • Project management experience. Develop project estimates, appropriation requests, equipment specifications, project schedules, and system test documents – Desirable
  • Experience with the design and installation of production machinery. Experience with hazard reviews and risk assessments – Desirable
  • Good safety awareness and makes safety a priority in project decisions and execution activities.
