Senior Electrical Systems Engineer, MR System Hardware Integration

Greater Boston | 12-Month Contract with Potential to Convert | Fully Onsite

Rate: $60 to $80/hr W2, depending on experience and skill set

My client in the Greater Boston Area is developing a new MRI system and needs a senior electrical engineer for hardware integration and troubleshooting. Direct MRI experience is not required. The priority is a strong general electrical engineering foundation with solid EMC/EMI understanding. MR-specific knowledge can be learned on the job.

This is a new product development role. No manufacturing, marketing, or sales involvement. You will report to the Head of MRI Development, who has prior scanner development experience and will hold brief daily check-ins during ramp-up. You will work alongside the MRI engineers and scientists on the team.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical integration and troubleshooting of MR systems and associated hardware, including the power cabinet, cable and wire assemblies, and magnet-adjacent equipment
• Perform traditional hands-on electrical engineering work: motors, power amplifiers, cable design, wiring, and system-level troubleshooting
• Investigate and resolve grounding, shielding, EMI/EMC, and ground loop issues affecting system performance and image quality

Required qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years in electrical engineering, system integration, or hardware troubleshooting
• Hands-on experience with motors, power amplifiers, cable design, and wiring
• Solid EMC/EMI fundamentals from formal education or direct experience, with strong analytical skills and a willingness to learn a new domain

Preferred qualifications

Experience with MR systems or medical imaging equipment, RF coil work, IEC 60601-1, MATLAB or Python, and lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes, VNAs, and spectrum analyzers. Candidates from aerospace, automotive, semiconductor, and defense backgrounds are welcome. Regulatory experience is not required, as the hiring manager owns compliance and will mentor on the relevant standards.
