Job summary

AeroVironment, Inc. in the SpaceTech division seeks a Components (EEE) Parts Engineer to select and qualify space-grade electronics. You’ll work with senior authorities to ensure parts survive mission-critical operations and collaborate with design, procurement, and quality teams across the lifecycle.

The role focuses on radiation-hardened electronics, part screening, and documentation, with growth through mentorship and exposure to solar and space environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Experience with and exposure to electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical components.
• Demonstrated interest in radiation-hardened electronics, material science, or space environments.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Responsibilities

• Identify and qualify components (passives, actives, ICs, high-speed digital, power).
• Apply MIL-STD, EEE-INST, PEM-INST standards to screening and qualification.
• Coordinate between design, procurement, and quality to track lifecycle of parts.
• Monitor End of Life notices and identify suitable replacements to avoid delays.
• Process GIDEP alerts and Product Change Notices (PCNs).
• Support counterfeit part detection through inspection and documentation.
• Document part-specific radiation tolerances for space-based systems.
• Coordinate component testing, including burn-in, environmental stress screening, and radiation testing.

Worker Type Regular Job Description Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented engineer or physicist to join our SpaceTech division as a Components (EEE) Parts Engineer. This is a role designed for an engineer who is passionate about the challenge of selecting the appropriate electronics for the harsh environment of space. In this role, you will be mentored by senior technical authorities to learn the intricacies of component selection, standardization, and radiation effects. You will play a vital role in ensuring that every passive and active component in our system is capable of surviving mission-critical operations.

Position Responsibilities

• Component Selection & Learning: Assist senior engineers in identifying and qualifying components (passives, actives, ICs, high-speed digital, power, and others) that meet specific program requirements.
• Learn to interpret and apply military and space standards (e.g., MIL-STD, EEE-INST, PEM-INST) to component screening and qualification.
• Act as a technical link between design engineering, procurement, and quality teams to track the lifecycle of parts from design to deployment.
• Risk Mitigation & Obsolescence: Monitor "End of Life" (EOL) notices from manufacturers and assist in identifying suitable form-fit-function replacements to prevent production delays.
• Learn to analyze and process GIDEP (Government-Industry Data Exchange Program) alerts and Product Change Notices (PCNs).
• Support the implementation of counterfeit part detection strategies through inspection and documentation review.
• Reliability & Radiation Assurance: Work alongside radiation effects specialists to learn how ionizing radiation impacts semiconductor performance.
• Assist in documenting part-specific radiation tolerances for space-based systems.
• Generate and maintain essential compliance reports and Non-Standard Part Approval Requests (NSPARs).
• Help coordinate component-level testing, including burn-in, environmental stress screening, and specialized radiation testing.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Experience with and exposure to applications and usages of electrical, electronic, and electro-mechanical components.
• A demonstrated interest in radiation-hardened electronics, material science, or space environments.
• Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to data management and documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

• Familiarity with Microsoft Suite, Python, MATLAB for data analysis and report generation.
• Previous experience in the Aerospace, Defense, or Semiconductor manufacturing sectors.
• Experience in working with databases.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Security Clearance.

Physical Demands

• Ability to work in an office and manufacturing environment (Constant).
• Regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (Frequent).

The salary range for this role is: $74,500 - $113,500
