New River Community and Technical College is seeking a full-time, 9-month Instructional Specialist in Electrical Distribution Engineering Technology (EDET) to train entry-level line workers and distribution technicians. The role focuses on safety, curriculum development, and partnerships with regional utilities, with expansion plans into fiber optics and broadband.

The position requires travel between campuses.

Qualifications

• Five years of full-time experience related to electrical/communications distribution and line service technology.
• Preferred: Ten years of field experience or prior teaching/instructional experience, preferably at a community college.
• Valid driver’s license and CDL are required.
• Certificate of Applied Science (CAS) in Line Service Technology is required.

Responsibilities

• Teach courses in electrical line service and distribution systems in classroom, lab, and field settings.
• Develop, revise, and maintain syllabi outlining course requirements and safety expectations.
• Assess student learning through tests, demonstrations, and skills evaluations.
• Advise and mentor students on career pathways and certifications.
• Participate in the EDET Advisory Board to ensure industry-aligned curriculum.
• Maintain safe operation of training facilities and equipment.
