Position Overview:

Our new Electrical Distribution Designer II is responsible for creating and modifying designs for electrical distribution systems, including overhead and underground networks, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards. This role involves analyzing project requirements, preparing construction documents, and collaborating with stakeholders to deliver reliable and cost-effective solutions. Key responsibilities include designing electric systems to prevent overloads and outages, updating existing systems, creating new networks for commercial builds, and working with engineers on design projects. The use of various computer programs to track project deadlines and progress, along with reporting to relevant departments, is essential.

Responsibilities:

• Perform field inspections for overhead and underground electric facilities on public and private utility systems.
• Develop and prepare distribution voltage packages for overhead and underground routing projects, including equipment installation, feeder replacement, cable replacement, and new feeder design.
• Develop design sketches, cost estimates, bills of materials, and other deliverables.
• Perform distribution calculations such as cable pulling, voltage drop, and pole loading.
• Draft using AutoCAD and/or proprietary utility design systems.
• Stay current on safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

• Associate Technical degree or 4-year non-technical degree.
• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in electrical distribution design.
• Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
• Ability to work methodically and analytically, with critical thinking skills.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written communication skills.
• Ability to guide junior designers or drafters.
• Stay updated on new technologies, tools, and industry practices.

Preferred Skills:

• Knowledge of electrical distribution theory and familiarity with the Electric Code (NESC).
• Electrical network distribution experience.
