Job summary

Actalent in Roanoke, VA is seeking an Electrical Designer to design electrical systems and modular shelter layouts from concept to final design. You will produce detailed drawings, BOMs, and calculations, ensuring compliance with customer specs and standards.

The role requires 2–4 years of electrical design experience, a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit. This is a fully onsite, permanent position with a pay range of $75,000 to $95,000 per year.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience in electrical design, electrical engineering, industrial design, or related technical field.
  • Experience designing power distribution, control systems, industrial electrical equipment, or packaged/modular systems preferred.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed electrical and shelter design drawings utilizing AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Interpret customer specifications, bid documents, and supplied drawings to create accurate and cost-effective designs.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to electrical service sizing, HVAC requirements, energy loads, and structural considerations.
  • Generate and maintain detailed bills of materials (BOMs) and manufacturing work orders.
  • Manage projects of varying complexity with minimal supervision while maintaining design accuracy and schedule commitments.
  • Review and revise existing designs to accommodate customer requirements, manufacturing improvements, and project changes.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, sales, and project management teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support to manufacturing personnel, sales teams, and customers.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to design standards, drafting practices, and engineering processes.
  • Travel occasionally to support customer meetings, project reviews, or field activities as needed.

Position Summary

The Electrical Designer is responsible for the design and development of electrical systems and modular shelter layouts for industrial and utility applications. This role supports projects from initial concept through final design, producing detailed drawings, calculations, and bills of materials while ensuring compliance with customer specifications and engineering standards. The ideal candidate can independently manage multiple projects, collaborate across departments, and provide technical support throughout the manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering preferred, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in electrical design, electrical engineering, industrial design, or related technical field.
  • Experience designing power distribution, control systems, industrial electrical equipment, or packaged/modular systems preferred.
Technical Skills
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Strong understanding of electrical design principles, power distribution, and control systems.
  • Ability to perform engineering calculations and interpret technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of architectural, mechanical, and electrical design disciplines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $75000.00 - $95000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
