Job summary

Actalent is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Towson, MD to design and develop complex building electrical systems across commercial, government, and academic projects. Qualifications

Job description

Electrical Engineer

This role is ideal for a degreed Electrical Engineer with at least 3 years of building design experience who wants to design and develop complex electrical systems for a diverse range of projects. You will work on power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and special systems in accordance with applicable codes, industry standards, and sound engineering practices. The position offers project ownership from initial design through construction completion, exposure to varied project types, and opportunities for professional growth in a collaborative, hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop complex electrical systems for a variety of building projects, including commercial, government, academic, R&D, multi-family, industrial, and similar facilities.
  • Perform detailed electrical calculations such as load studies, voltage drop analysis, equipment sizing, and illumination calculations to ensure safe and efficient system performance.
  • Design power distribution systems, interior and exterior lighting systems, fire alarm systems, and special electrical systems in compliance with applicable codes and industry standards.
  • Oversee projects from initial concept and design through construction completion, ensuring technical quality, schedule adherence, and budget compliance.
  • Conduct site visits to document existing conditions and gather field data needed for accurate design and coordination.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive construction documents and drawings using AutoCAD and Revit software.
  • Develop project specifications and cost estimates that align with project requirements and client expectations.
  • Attend design and coordination meetings with internal teams and external partners to review project progress, resolve issues, and ensure alignment across disciplines.
  • Respond to review comments and make necessary revisions to drawings, specifications, and calculations in a timely manner.
  • Support construction administration activities, including reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, and change order requests for conformance with design intent.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members while also managing individual tasks independently with limited direction.
  • Manage multiple time-sensitive tasks and projects concurrently, maintaining a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of the organization and external stakeholders, providing technical information and updates as needed.
  • Maintain a commitment to continued professional development and ongoing code compliance in all project work.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of industry-related experience in electrical design for building projects such as commercial, government, academic, R&D, multi-family, industrial, and similar facilities.
  • Strong technical expertise in building electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and special systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit for preparing construction documents and drawings.
  • Ability to perform electrical calculations, including load studies, voltage drop analysis, equipment sizing, and illumination calculations.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of the organization and external partners.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple time-sensitive tasks simultaneously.
  • Highly motivated, problem-solving mindset with a strong sense of urgency in responding to project needs and stakeholders.
  • Self-reliance and ability to operate independently with limited direction.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in electrical design for multi-family or commercial building projects.
  • Knowledge of SKM software tools for power system analysis.
  • Familiarity with lighting design software such as AGI, Visual, or similar tools.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) accreditation preferred.
  • Aspiration to grow professionally and advance within the organization.
  • Strong interest in continued professional development and staying current with codes and industry standards.
Work Environment

This position operates in a hybrid work environment, with three days in the office and two days remote each week. The office setting supports collaborative design work, coordination meetings, and access to tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, SKM, and lighting design software. The role involves a mix of desk-based design tasks and occasional site visits to document existing conditions. Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
