Job summary

Actalent in Philadelphia is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead the design and execution of complex building electrical systems, mentoring junior staff and coordinating with architects and other engineers in a hybrid work setting.

The role requires a PE license, a BS in Electrical Engineering, and at least 10 years of experience. You will manage budgets, schedules, and client relationships while delivering high-quality technical documentation and code-compliant designs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one state; may register in additional states.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering for building systems.
  • Demonstrated management experience leading projects and/or teams.
  • Strong knowledge of NEC, IBC, and current electrical codes.
  • Proficiency with electrical design calculation software and equipment selection programs.
  • Experience in electrical building systems design: power distribution, lighting, and signaling.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical design and documentation.
  • Experience in construction administration for building projects.
  • Strong client-facing and multidisciplinary team communication skills.
  • Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and multiple tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and supervision of electrical engineering projects from concept through construction, ensuring coordinated and comprehensive project documentation.
  • Attend project meetings and collaborate closely with architects, engineers, and other team members to develop detailed, coordinated electrical designs.
  • Complete technical reports, specifications, and code research, and establish electrical design criteria for assigned projects.
  • Ensure all design and production efforts are completed within established project budgets and schedules.
  • Lead the design, documentation, and completion of lighting, power, and signal calculations for building projects.
  • Collaborate with discipline leadership to communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Perform and supervise construction administration tasks, including responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and supporting field observations.
  • Coordinate and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously while maintaining project schedules and budgets.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineering staff to support their technical development and professional growth.
  • Prepare effective technical proposals and deliver presentations for new and existing clients.
  • Manage client and contractor relationships, maintaining strong communication and service throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Stay current with industry developments, codes, and best practices through independent study, seminars, and continuing education.
  • Participate in design, analysis, and documentation training in alignment with discipline training guidelines.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews and support the implementation of firm-wide standards and best practices.
  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required or requested to support project and firm objectives.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (PE) in at least one state, with credentials suitable for registration in additional states.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering for building systems.
  • Demonstrated management experience leading projects and/or teams.
  • Strong knowledge of current electrical and building codes and practices, including NEC and IBC.
  • Proficiency in electrical engineering calculation software and equipment selection programs.
  • Experience in electrical building systems design, including power distribution, lighting, and signal systems.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical design and documentation.
  • Experience in power distribution design and lighting design and calculations.
  • Experience in construction administration for building projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to ensure code compliance in electrical designs.
  • Strong communication skills for client-facing and multidisciplinary team environments.
  • Ability to manage budgets, schedules, and multiple concurrent tasks effectively.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with Revit MEP for building systems modeling and coordination.
  • Experience with SKM Power Tools and/or ETAP for power system analysis.
  • Experience with AGi32 or similar software for lighting design and calculations.
  • Experience with healthcare facility electrical design or other complex building types.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop junior engineers.
  • Experience preparing technical proposals and delivering presentations to clients.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development through seminars, continuing education, and industry training.
  • Familiarity with firm-wide QA/QC processes and design standards.
Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Philadelphia, PA.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $160000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
