Job summary

Responsibilities

• Determines design criteria, drawing sequence and presentation; sizes components.
• Refines rough sketches with material quantities and equipment specs from calculations and vendor data.
• Develops quantities; assists in cost estimates and contract documents.
• Performs NEC 220 load calculations; lighting density calculations.
• Prepares plan drawings, riser diagrams, details, and schedules with software.
• Develops design solutions and selects basic electrical equipment with guidance.
• Assists in construction cost estimates.
• Performs site surveys and supports engineering studies.
• Attends client and department meetings; ensures projects meet budget and schedule.

Job Location: AEI - Baltimore - [2BAL] - Hunt Valley, MD 21030

Position Type: Full Time

Salary Range: $80,000.00 - $85,000.00 Salary

Overall Responsibility: With guidance from senior engineers, responsible for the completion and maintenance of high quality electrical designs, including but not limited to: lighting & power distribution, using AutoCAD and Revit, while complying with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and other industry standards.

Essential Functions

• Determines design criteria, drawing sequence and presentation, sizing various system components.
• Refines rough sketches and notes to include material quantities and equipment specifications obtained from standard calculations and vendor information.
• Develops quantities and determines labor and material costs for cost estimates-- generally supports preparation of contract documents.
• Accurately performs appropriate calculations for assignments, including but not limited to: lighting density calculations using standard lighting software, electrical load calculations complying with NEC 220, and short circuit calculations using industry standard methods.
• Prepares plan drawings, riser diagrams, details, and schedules using appropriate software.
• Develops solutions to design problems.
• Selects basic electrical equipment, such as panel boards, switchgear, transformers, conductors, light fixtures, lighting controls, etc. with guidance from senior engineers in the company.
• Assists in the creation of construction cost estimates.
• Performs site surveys and contributes to engineering studies.
• Attends and contributes to client and departmental meetings.
• Ensures assigned projects are completed within budget and on time.

Secondary Functions

• Supports applicable software requests as needed.
• Lends support to all business areas outside of electrical focus as needed.
• Duties as assigned by Electrical Discipline Lead.

QualificationsNeeded Skills

• Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC), and industry standards for electrical design
• Proficient in MS Office, especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
• AutoCAD proficiency for Electrical Engineer candidate.
• AutoCAD and REVIT proficiency for Electrical Designer candidate.
• Ability to learn and become capable in SKM Software and Means Estimating Software within four months of hire.
• Understanding of underlying principals of A/E industry.
• Ability to prioritize tasks.
• Detail and safety-oriented.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to create and maintain productive relationships with employees, clients, and vendors.

Education/Experience Minimum

• BS in Electrical Engineering
• EIT preferred for Electrical Engineering candidate.
• Ability to drive and maintain a safe driving record.
• Valid state driver’s license (any in US).
• In possession of appropriate paperwork to gain and maintain employment in the US.
• Ability to meet worksite security requirements.
