PTS Advance seeks an electrical designer/drafter to help design electrical systems, develop schematics, and produce CAD drawings for a range of projects. You will work with engineers and project managers to translate sketches into detailed, code-compliant drawings.

Requirements include a related degree or equivalent experience, plus 2D/3D CAD proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for success in this multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with related experience, or 4 years of detailing/electrical design background.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Ability to work with 2D and 3D design applications.
  • Understanding of electrical design principles and systems.
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving, and detail-oriented skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with electrical system design, including schematics, power, lighting, and controls.
  • Prepare drawings from sketches and verbal instructions using CAD software.
  • Support 2D/3D drawing production, layouts, sizing, and calculations.
  • Collaborate with Engineers, Designers, and Project Managers to resolve issues.
  • Ensure drawings meet scope, budget, and schedule constraints.
  • Maintain organized project drawings and documentation.

Job description

What You’ll Do
  • Assist with the design of electrical systems, including electrical schematics, power systems, lighting, protection and controls, grid layouts, and site/facility design.
  • Prepare engineering drawings from sketches, redlines, markups, verbal instructions, and general design information using CAD software.
  • Support 2D and 3D drawing production, design layouts, calculations, and system component sizing.
  • Assist with initial designs, sketches, revisions, and project markups.
  • Help establish electrical CAD configurations and procedures based on project requirements.
  • Review reports, drawings, and test information to support project design.
  • Apply applicable design codes, standards, and project specifications.
  • Complete and review drawings within established scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
  • Incorporate project schedules, budgets, and design criteria into electrical layouts.
  • Maintain organized project drawings, revisions, plot files, and other project documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineers, Designers, and Project Managers to resolve design and drawing issues.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned while maintaining company and project standards.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Drafting Technology or a related field with 2 years of related experience; OR
  • Associate degree with 3 years of related experience; OR
  • 4 years of progressive detailing and electrical design experience.
  • Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work with both 2D and 3D design applications.
  • Basic understanding of electrical design principles, calculations, and systems.
  • Ability to learn and effectively use new design software and technology.
  • Understanding of engineering design practices and how other disciplines interact with electrical design.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary project environment.
