Responsibilities

  • Prepare electrical construction drawings: schematics, wiring diagrams, three-line diagrams, cable schedules, sub-panel layouts.
  • Ensure drawings match BOM and design standards; incorporate customer revisions.
  • Collaborate with electrical, application, and mechanical engineers to integrate designs.
  • Review drawings for completeness and standards compliance; apply checklists.
  • Process Engineering Changes and maintain revision-controlled drawings.
  • Follow established engineering processes and seek guidance to improve quality.

Job description

The Electrical Designer I collaborates closely with electrical engineers, application engineers, and mechanical designers to ensure accuracy, consistency, and manufacturability of electrical systems. The position emphasizes quality, adherence to standards, and timely completion of deliverables.

Design & Drafting
  • Prepare electrical construction drawings (schematics, wiring diagrams, finalizing three-line diagrams, cable schedules, sub-panel layouts)
  • Ensure accuracy of drawings against BOM and design standards
  • Incorporate customer redlines and revisions as directed
Collaboration & Coordination
  • Work closely with application engineers, electrical engineers, and mechanical engineers to integrate electrical designs into overall systems
  • Coordinate layouts for panels and doors with other disciplines
Quality & Standards
  • Review drawings for completeness and compliance with company/industry standards
  • Apply checklists and processes to minimize errors and manufacturing rework
  • Maintain consistency and accuracy across drawing packages
Change & Documentation Management
  • Process Engineering Changes (ECs) and ensure timely updates
  • Maintain drawing documentation, revisions, and version control
  • Support traceability of design decisions and updates
Continuous Learning & Process Improvement (entry-level emphasis)
  • Follow established engineering processes and design guidelines
  • Seek guidance from senior designers/engineers and apply feedback to improve quality
  • Contribute to identifying opportunities for process streamlining

Required
  • Ability to read and interpret one-line, three-line, wiring diagrams, and cable schedules
  • Skill in using CAD software (SolidWorks and SolidWorks Electrical preferred; otherwise AutoCAD, EPLAN, or eqv.) to produce and revise electrical drawings
  • Ability to apply attention to detail to ensure accuracy and consistency in drawings
  • Skill in managing time effectively, tracking progress, and prioritizing tasks across multiple projects
  • Ability to communicate clearly in written and verbal form
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams
Preferred
  • Basic knowledge of power distribution and substation control concepts (three-phase systems, relays, transformers, control switches, etc.)
  • Knowledge of engineering or industry standards relevant to electrical design and documentation
  • Ability to adapt to changing project priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong organizational skills with a proactive, solution-oriented approach
  • Ability to maintain a positive, professional attitude when working under pressure

An associate’s degree in electrical design or a technical diploma in an engineering-related field, along with 0 to 3 years of experience using CAD software (preferably SolidWorks Electrical), is required. Candidates with 0 to 3 years of electrical design experience in a manufacturing or production environment are preferred. Equivalent work experience of at least 3 years may also be considered.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee views computer monitor often.
