You will collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams in the power providers market to design and deliver complex power generation facilities and critical infrastructure. The position focuses on creating and modifying high‑quality 2D and 3D electrical design deliverables using industry‑standard digital tools, with an emphasis on duct bank design, cable tray design, grounding, lighting, and other electrical systems that support advanced power generation projects. Operating under minimal supervision, you will apply advanced electrical engineering design principles, ensure technical quality, and help drive innovative design solutions while maintaining project schedule and budget compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Function in a lead technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisory role on advanced power generation projects.

  • Apply advanced technical expertise to solve complex electrical design challenges within the power generation discipline.

  • Contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions for advanced power generation facilities and related infrastructure.

  • Utilize digital design tools and software, including CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling platforms, to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.

  • Develop and refine 2D and 3D electrical design drawings, including duct bank layouts, cable tray routing, grounding systems, and lighting systems for power generation projects.

  • Use Bentley MicroStation and related Bentley tools to produce high‑quality engineering deliverables that meet project standards and client requirements.

  • Support lighting design by performing accurate modeling and illumination calculations for APG facilities, using AGI32 when applicable.

  • Ensure technical quality of all assigned work, including adherence to established design standards, codes, and project specifications.

  • Monitor and maintain schedule adherence for assigned tasks, ensuring that design deliverables are completed on time.

  • Manage and track design activities to support budget compliance, including efficient use of resources and alignment with project financial goals.

  • Coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary project teams, including engineers, designers, and other stakeholders, to align design deliverables with overall project objectives.

  • Collaborate across departments and teams to resolve design issues, incorporate feedback, and integrate discipline‑specific designs into overall project models.

  • Supervise and guide engineering technicians and support staff, providing technical direction and oversight for conceptual and detailed design activities.

  • Review and check the work of other technicians to ensure quality, accuracy, and consistency in design outputs.

  • Support the development and implementation of standardized procedures and best practices for digital design and documentation within the VDDS group.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of design workflows, tools, and processes to enhance quality and efficiency on APG projects.

Essential Skills

  • Typically a minimum of 15 years of related work experience in electrical design or a closely related field.

  • Advanced knowledge of electrical engineering design principles and practices as applied to power generation facilities.

  • Proficiency with Bentley MicroStation and other Bentley design tools for creating and modifying 2D and 3D electrical design drawings.

  • Experience with 3D modeling of electrical equipment and systems in a power generation context.

  • Experience in duct bank design, including routing, configuration, and coordination with other disciplines.

  • Experience in cable tray design, including layout, sizing, and integration with plant systems.

  • Experience in grounding system design for power generation facilities.

  • Experience in lighting design for industrial or power generation environments.

  • Advanced knowledge of project budgets and schedules, including the ability to plan, track, and manage design work within established constraints.

  • Ability to work under minimal supervision while delivering high‑quality technical work.
