Job summary

NR Consulting in Chandler, AZ seeks an experienced electrical design engineer to lead design of LV and MV switchgear, from customer requirements through manufacturing release. You will develop single-line/three-line diagrams, control schematics, and interconnection drawings, and specify major components per project needs and standards.

This hands-on role mixes office design work with panel shop and testing, requiring collaboration with mechanical, project management, procurement, and production

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Strong knowledge of three-phase power distribution and equipment requirements.
• Experience selecting low- and medium-voltage breakers and protective devices.
• Experience developing or reviewing control circuits and interlocks.
• Experience creating BOMs and aligning drawings with manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design of low- and medium-voltage switchgear from customer needs to manufacturing release.
• Develop and review schematics, wiring diagrams, and interconnection drawings.
• Specify major electrical components based on standards and project requirements.
• Ensure designs comply with UL 891, NEC, IEEE C37, and other applicable codes.
• Determine voltage, current, fault-current, and withstand ratings for equipment.
• Develop grounding/bonding requirements per NEC, UL, IEEE standards.
• Create protection strategies with breakers, relays, and trip units.
• Design control schemes, interlocks, EPO, alarms, and status indications.
• Integrate transfer schemes and automatic/manual transfer systems when needed.
• Develop auxiliary power systems and panelboard layouts.
• Coordinate interfaces with PLCs, BMS, generator controls, UPS, HVAC, and fire alarm systems.
• Review customer specs for conflicts and compliance before manufacturing.
• Provide technical leadership during design reviews and customer discussions.
• Create and maintain BOM accuracy and alignment with drawings.
• Collaborate with Mechanical, PM, Procurement, Production and Quality teams.
• Support manufacturing with design issue resolution and field troubleshooting.
• Assess alternate components for availability, lead times, cost, and obsolescence.
