Qualifications

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join our team in Wisconsin as an Electrical Design Engineer - Power Electronics & Thermal Systems. You will be part of a group of engineers dedicated to high-quality work, value-add solutions, skill development, and career growth. This role follows a hybrid schedule and requires travel to Faribault, MN as needed. Candidates must reside within a 4-5 hour driving distance or near a major airport such as Green Bay or Milwaukee.

As an Electrical Design Engineer - Power Electronics & Thermal Systems, you will:

  • Drive cost savings, margin improvement, and design enhancements across electrical systems and product lines
  • Perform electrical design, modeling, and analysis for new products and existing electrical assemblies
  • Apply power conversion theory to optimize system performance, reliability, and efficiency
  • Design and analyze power‑electronics systems, including IGBT‑based topologies and high‑frequency switching architectures
  • Develop and optimize high‑frequency busbar designs, including skin‑effect considerations, materials selection, and topology improvements
  • Support research, development, and engineering initiatives, including concept development and early‑stage electrical design
  • Conduct CFD/CFX analysis to evaluate electronics cooling, airflow, and thermal performance
  • Design and validate electronics cooling strategies and thermal‑management solutions for high‑power assemblies
  • Contribute to sustaining engineering activities such as cost‑reduction projects and engineering change requests
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts that strengthen product quality, reduce variation, and streamline electrical assembly processes
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers and internal engineering partners to resolve design challenges and improve manufacturability
  • Work collaboratively with suppliers and Applied partners
  • Contribute to projects that impact communities in Northfield, Owatonna, Dundas, Medford, Lakeville, Farmington, Waseca, and Lonsdale, and the greater Wisconsin

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering required
  • 4+ years of electrical engineering experience
  • Experience with electrical design, modeling, and documentation
  • Knowledge of power conversion theory and high‑power electrical systems
  • Experience with power electronics, including IGBT‑based systems and high‑frequency switching architectures
  • Experience designing or analyzing high‑frequency busbars, including skin‑effect considerations, materials, and topology optimization
  • Experience with CFD/CFX analysis for electronics cooling and thermal‑management applications
  • Familiarity with sustaining engineering, cost‑reduction initiatives, and ECR processes
  • Ability to identify and execute design improvements that support cost, quality, and performance goals
  • Strong analytical skills and problem‑solving abilities
  • Experience with electrical modeling or simulation tools (CAD, analysis, or circuit modeling platforms) preferred
  • Capable of working independently and as a team member

ESTIMATED PAY RANGE
  • Engineer I: $40.45-$46.52/hour
  • Engineer II: $44.14-$50.76/hour
  • Engineer III: $47.83-$55.00/hour
  • Senior Engineer: $51.51-$59.24/hour

Final compensation is based on experience, skills, and alignment with role expectations. Paid overtime may be available.
