Job summary

AMPAM in El Cajon, CA is seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer / Electrical Design Engineer (Level II or III) to design the building electrical systems for California communities. This role collaborates with architects, project managers, field teams, and fellow engineers on multifamily and other complex projects.

You will work on design for multifamily residential communities and other building types, with growth potential, mentoring opportunities, and ongoing engineering standards

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Architectural Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • Progressive experience designing electrical building systems within an MEP consulting or design-build environment.
  • Experience with multifamily residential projects is highly desirable; experience with commercial, healthcare, hospitals, higher education, student housing, hospitality, or other complex building types is welcomed.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for multifamily and other complex building projects from concept through construction.
  • Perform engineering calculations including electrical load analysis, voltage drop, fault current, lighting calculations, and panel scheduling.
  • Prepare construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
  • Coordinate electrical designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, and plumbing disciplines.
  • Support BIM coordination, clash detection, and digital project delivery.
  • Participate in project meetings, design reviews, and client coordination.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and support construction administration.
  • Perform QA/QC reviews while mentoring junior engineers and design technicians.
  • Help improve engineering standards, BIM workflows, and design best practices.

We're growing our Electrical Engineering team and are hiring experienced engineers at either the Design Engineer II or Design Engineer III level.

The final title, responsibilities, and compensation will be determined based on your experience, technical expertise, licensure, and overall qualifications.

What You'll Do
  • Design electrical systems for multifamily and other complex building projects from concept through construction.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Progressive experience designing electrical building systems within an MEP consulting or design-build environment.
  • Experience with multifamily residential projects is highly desirable; experience with commercial, healthcare, hospitals, higher education, student housing, hospitality, high‑rise, or other complex building types is also welcomed.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
  • Experience with Navisworks, Bluebeam, BIM 360, or Autodesk Construction Cloud is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of the NEC, California Electrical Code, and Title 24 energy requirements.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design principles including LEED or CALGreen is preferred.
  • Strong engineering judgment, communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Compensation

The expected hiring range for this position is $80,000 - $130,000 annually. Actual compensation will depend on level, experience, certifications and technical expertise.
