Job summary

AMPAM is expanding its engineering team in California and seeks experienced Senior HVAC Design Engineers at Design Engineer II or III levels. You will design mechanical systems for large multifamily residential projects from concept through construction, collaborating with architects, PMs, field teams, and fellow engineers to deliver high-quality, efficient HVAC solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering.
• Progressive experience designing HVAC building systems in MEP environment.
• Experience with multifamily, mixed-use, or commercial projects preferred.
• PE license or active licensure pursuit preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems for large multifamily residential construction from concept through construction.
• Perform heating/cooling loads, ventilation analysis, equipment selection, and duct sizing calculations.
• Prepare construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit.
• Coordinate designs with architectural, structural, plumbing, and electrical disciplines.
• Participate in design and coordination meetings, resolving technical challenges.
• Support construction through submittal reviews, RFIs, and field observations.
• Perform QA/QC reviews of engineering documents.
• Mentor junior engineers and design technicians, elevating design quality.
• Help improve engineering standards, processes, and best practices.

We're expanding our engineering team and are hiring experienced HVAC Design Engineers at either the Design Engineer II or Design Engineer III level.

The final level, compensation, and responsibilities will be based on your experience, technical expertise, licensure, and overall qualifications.

What You'll Do

• Design HVAC systems for large multifamily residential construction projects from concept through construction.
• Perform engineering calculations including heating and cooling loads, ventilation analysis, equipment selection, and duct sizing.

What You Bring

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an accredited program.
• Progressive experience designing HVAC building systems within an MEP consulting or design-build environment.
• Experience with multifamily, mixed-use, or commercial projects is preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure preferred.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit required.
• Experience with Navisworks, Bluebeam, or BIM 360 is a plus.
• Strong understanding of HVAC system design, ASHRAE standards, and applicable building codes.
• Excellent communication, organization, and project coordination skills.

The expected hiring range for this position is $93,000 - $131,000 annually. Actual compensation will depend on level, experience, certifications and technical expertise.
