Job summary

Tailwind Applied Sciences seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead design, development, and delivery of mission-critical data center electrical infrastructure. You will drive power distribution, redundancy, and uptime across multiple projects.

You will mentor junior engineers, coordinate with mechanical, civil, and network teams, review drawings and submittals, and support startup, commissioning, and operational readiness to meet NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and local codes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering required.
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience in data centers or mission-critical facilities.
  • 5+ years designing or supporting data centers with power distribution, UPS, generators, switchgear, and protection systems.
  • Proficiency with ETAP, SKM, Easy Power, AutoCAD, Revit, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical design of data center facilities, including power distribution and UPS systems.
  • Review drawings and specifications for quality, safety, and compliance with NEC/NFPA/IEEE/NETA.
  • Mentor junior engineers; coordinate with mechanical, structural, civil, and network teams.
  • Lead commissioning, startup, and operational readiness activities across projects.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to assist with the design, development, and delivery of mission-critical electrical infrastructure for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center projects. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in electrical power systems, redundancy architectures, power distribution, and data center design standards while collaborating with cross-functional teams throughout the project lifecycle.

This role provides technical leadership for electrical engineering design, construction support, commissioning, and operational optimization of critical facilities.

  • Lead the electrical design of data center facilities, including:
  • Utility service entrance systems
  • Medium-voltage and low-voltage power distribution
  • UPS systems
  • Switchgear and switchboards
  • PDUs and RPPs
  • Grounding and bonding systems
  • Lighting and emergency power systems
  • Develop single-line diagrams, load studies, short-circuit analyses, coordination studies, and arc flash assessments.
  • Ensure designs meet Tier III/Tier IV reliability requirements and client performance objectives.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and construction documents for quality and compliance.
  • Serve as the lead electrical engineer on multiple data center projects.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, structural, civil, networking, and construction teams.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance.
  • Support equipment procurement and factory witness testing.
  • Review submittals and respond to RFIs.
  • Participate in site inspections and construction quality reviews.
  • Lead electrical commissioning activities and troubleshooting.
  • Support startup and operational readiness programs.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • 5+ years of experience designing or supporting mission-critical facilities or data centers.
  • Strong knowledge of:
  • Electrical power distribution systems
  • UPS technologies
  • Generator systems
  • Protection and controls
  • Experience with electrical analysis software such as:
  • ETAP
  • SKM Power Tools
  • Easy Power
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% as required.
