County of Hawai‘i invites applications for a permanent, full-time role with the Department of Public Works - Building Division. The incumbent will direct building codes, permits, and inspection programs, oversee budgets, and guide design/construction of public facilities island-wide.

Applicants must hold a US professional license and relevant engineering or architectural degree. Six years of professional experience and two years supervising engineers or architects are required, with a valid

Knowledge of building codes, inspections, and design standards.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise professional staff.
Budgeting, reporting, and policy implementation knowledge.
Understanding of public works processes and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

Direct and coordinate programs related to building codes, permits, inspections, and design/construction of public facilities.
Review and implement division policies, procedures, and budgets.
Oversee enforcement of codes and conduct staff trainings and hearings.
Prepare plans and cost estimates for capital projects and renovations.
Sign off on building permits and liaise with other agencies as needed.
