Job summary

FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS is seeking a Career and Technical Education Teacher for the Polk Correctional Institution’s Education Department to teach Electrical in a correctional setting.

The role focuses on delivering vocational instruction, assessing student progress, and maintaining classroom safety in a non-telework environment with mandatory reporting to the designated FDC office.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in the CTE subject area being taught.
• Possession of current licensure or certification in the CTE being taught may substitute for up to one year of experience.
• Must possess the applicable subject area license or industry certification or be willing to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• Must possess or be eligible to apply for a Temporary Florida Department of Corrections Educator’s Certificate.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Plans, develops, and conducts classes in assigned subjects, utilizing teaching techniques to aid student advancement.
• Supervises inmates in class, conducts roll calls, counts, and maintains attendance records.
• Ensures order, discipline, tool control, and safety in the classroom and/or shop.
• Evaluates student progress, administers grades and tests, and counsels individuals on progress or personal concerns.
• Participates in staff meetings and professional development activities; assists in budget processes for the education program.
