Job summary

Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a Career and Technical Education Teacher to instruct Electrical in a correctional setting at Columbia Correctional Institution. The role focuses on delivering vocational lessons, monitoring student progress, and maintaining a safe classroom environment.

The incumbent will coordinate with education staff, supervise class activities, and contribute to curriculum improvements.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma or its equivalent and three (3) years’ experience in the CTE subject area being taught.
• Possession of current licensure or certification in the CTE being taught or a postsecondary certificate may substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
• Must hold the applicable subject area license or industry certification or be willing to possess within 12 months of hire.
• Special note: Temporary Educator’s Certificate issued with 5 years to obtain Professional Certificate.

Responsibilities

• Teach the assigned CTE subjects to inmates at the correctional facility.
• Plan, develop, and conduct classes using varied teaching techniques.
• Supervise inmates, conduct roll calls and attendance, maintain order and safety.
• Evaluate student progress, assign grades and tests, and counsel students on progress.
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development; assist with budget requests.
